Title: Durango and Silverton, Colorado
Post by: JCZ on April 27, 2019, 11:14:27 PM
It's been awhile since I've done a ride report.....just post all of my pics on fb now.

We left Monument Valley a couple of days ago and came to Durango.  But being in this area brought back a lot of memories of the Ouray CVO GTG a few years back.  Babe and I are here in Durango in our 5th wheel and decided to ride up to Silverton for lunch....

Coal Bank Pass, 10,640' and covered in snow still...

We passed a surprising number of bicyclists all the way up and over the two passes.  Huge cardio to be able to do that at 11,000' and in the 40's up there.  In this pic you'll see a lady bicyclist at the far end of the turnout, under the yellow sign.  It looked like she was probably eating a protein bar or some other snack, as we rode by.

Of course there were lots of water falls around evey turn...

And our first view of Silverton as we came around the curve...

We're laughing because by the time we got in the pizza parlor, we were both pretty cold......while all of our heated gear was left back at our RV.

And talking about memories at the Ouray GTG, on our way to Monument Valley Babe and I stopped for a couple of days in Williams, Az. and visited with Cammy.  The last time we saw Cammy was at the GTG and we had lunch with her and Steve there in Silverton.  So we stopped in Williams to visit Cammy....

Nice report, photos and of course a great area to ride. Brought back our memories of the Ouray GTG.  You didn’t lose your keys this time I hope!

We had light snow flurries when we left Silverton so it was cold....especially considering that we didn't take our heated gear.  But it was in the 70s by the time we got back down to Durango.

We're in Buena Vista, Colo. now and it's supposed to snow here Tue. morning.

Buena Vista sits right at the bottom of two of Colorado's 14ers (that's what they call the mountains in Colo. that are over 14,000 feet).  We sit right below Mt. Princeton, 14,196  and Mt. Yale, 14,199.   I'll get some pics as soon as the overcast clears.

Make it happen before Aug. and I'm just over the hill in Buena Vista.....impatiently waiting for all of these passes to open over these 14ers.
