Sitting just outside Louisville and planning the ride home tomorrow. Dave, you talked us into 27 home which runs about 10 miles from the house just past Wartburg. Rode it many times to Oneida but not up into KY. Took 150 to 127 then west to Louisville Thursday. Thanks for the info.

The more we ride the chieftain, the more we love it. Great riding bike and what a sound out the pipes. Stage 2 and getting 46 mpg average. Not too shabby

I often go up 27 when going north.  Keeps me out of Knoxville, some great curves and early Sunday morning almost no traffic.  I will then either head over to the interstate in Burnside or go all the way to Lexington.  Glad you liked it.  I have taken the route your talking to Louisville.

Took my Harley CVO Streetglide for the brake fluid recall campaign, just to be told I needed a new ABS module. $800 repair. Told them to flush the fluids and let me have it, than the Service Manager was kind enough to tell me, leave it here let me see what I can do to help. They gave me a courtesy ride home. Next day they did the job for $408. Sometimes
I am just grateful. I know the part is a few hundred dollars. So Thank You Brandon Harley!!!

So you had no codes and nothing to suggest failure (impending or otherwise) before the fluid flush?  Dealership then said they'd like $800 and you said no.  They then did you a favor and took only $400.  And the bike still was throwing no codes nor showing other signs of problem?  Sometimes I'm too much of a skeptic.....

The ABS module is mechanical not electronic. As am sure you know the only difference is that if it works it pumps the brakes, if it does not it just wont pump them.

Yeah, familiar with them.  Have changed three.  Have the Daytona Twin Tec tool to allow "home bleeding" and service.  They do tend to give some hint when they're needing replacement....

And it's actually both a hydraulic and an electronic component.  Fluid manifold controlled by its fancy smart widgets.

You are absolutely correct, if the hydraulic part is the one that fails, it will give no codes. Hence the inability to pump the brakes.

Not really hard, but it would not pump or engage the ABS action. Now it does it when I press or step hard on the brakes.

Had mostly dismissed it already but my Road King required service today also.  On the side of the road.

About an hour from home pulled out of a small town just after finishing a nice meal.  Am pretty sure the extra heft of the meal accounted for the problem.  Accelerated away from the one stop light in town and had not throttle.  Grip just oozed or eezed with no throttle reaction.

Sh*t.

Pulled over to the skinny shoulder and eyeballed the throttle body and the grip as best I could.  Pretty sure the grip had just come unglued from its central core (old cable operated throttle). Sure enough, that's all.  Yanked the rubber and chrome part of the ISO grip off and rode home squeezing the skinny inner part that was all still completely in order.

Got home and wiped everything down.  Slathered it a bit with Gorilla Glue and slid the pieces back together.  Zero dollar repairs don't happen often in the Harley world.

They'll get "firm" before they will eventually get so hard you can't even engage the brakes anymore.  You were on your way there.  If they replaced with new and got you out for $400 they definitely did you a solid.  The cynic in me should be ashamed :drink: !

No problem brother, I still believe there are a few good people in the world. There are far and few but we are still roaming this earth.
