Leave the black ones in. Just my opinion. Where did you get the metal from and how big was it? How many pieces did you get out of it? I have two sheets of 12x24 coming in case I screw up big time making them.

I got the 24"x36" sheet from Lowes. Lots left over. You need about a 4"X7" piece for each vent. You'll be fine with the 12"x24".

Joe,
I have a couple of questions on the vent screens install -
How do they attach?
What do you think the maximum thickness of material that can be installed?
Thanks

When you remove the outer fairing there is a recess cut in the inner fairing that is approximately about a 1/4 of an inch wide. The headlight bezel has a small gap where it mounts to the inner fairing. The screen is cut so that the inside part slides into the gap around the headlight bezel. The outer part of the screen covers the recess and is held in place by the outer faring where it fits into the recess. The metal I used is 24 gauge and it fills the gap with not a lot of room to spare. You might be able to use 20 gauge but then it might be difficult sliding it into place.

Black set installed

My vote is the Black screens!

Pretty work! I love it when members find D.I.Y. And can save $$$ paying the big money to those big money companies! (However, thank you goes out to Klockwerks for the idea.  :2vrolijk_21:)

Also, the new 2015 road glides fairings seems ALOT easier to take on and off then the 2013 and older models!

Any luck with the big middle vent with adding a screen?

The new fairings are definitely easier. I hadn't given any thought to the middle vent. Might have to take a closer look at it.

Hey CVOSJOE,
Yeah I agree the black looks much better. I do not own a Road Glide but am considering one in a year or two. Being the uneducated softtail rider that I am what is the purpose of the vents. I can see the pros of the vent covers...besides looks it may stop the splattering of birds and bugs inside the vents making any guts easier to access and clean. But it appears to restrict the air flow surface area by at least 50%.  Might it also stop or restrict the passage of air to the rider thereby affecting rider comfort on hot summer days or maybe even affect areodynamics in some strange way creating wind turbulence, noise or even vibration? I assume you have done some higher speed riding to make sure nothing out of the ordinary has developed. Probably everything is fine...but like I said I do not own one but am very interested.

2 ROSE,
I will update you on this once I have had a chance to road test the bike.

It's like 25 degrees here in NY.  What did I do? I opened up the door to my garage and stared at my bikes. That's what I did.
I hate winter.
