Well it has been a year and three months since our accident. It has been ten months since the last surgery to repair the compound fracture of Vickie's right leg. All this time has passed and the bone still has not grown back together. Needless to say it has been extremely painful and has required a lot of narcotics. She had a check up Monday and now (I guess due to insurance stuff) the doctor had to give it time. Now he says it is a non-union bone and he can fix it.
Doctor said it is no big deal, small incision pack in some bone growth compound, maybe stay in hospital overnight, good to go. She has been walking on it with great pain. Now hopefully this will eliminate the pain and get her back on the road to normal. Surgery is next Wed. Aug. 13th. Just asking for your good thoughts and prayers! See you soon, MV is almost here.

In our thoughts and prayers

Sorry to hear of Vickie's continued pain. Prayers for healing and a pain free future.
-
Arland, sure hate it that Vickie is having this difficulty. When I broke my tibia several years ago the fracture gap was not healing very well and the doc did a bone graft which is what I think Vickie will be getting. I can tell you that after the graft the healing progressed rapidly. I hope and pray that Vickie will have the same result.

The two of you have been in my prayers since the accident occured. Continued prayers your way and a special one for the health team performing the procedure.

Thoughts and prayers to both of you.

My Mom broke her femur and it hadn't healed after a year. They went back on and did a graft and it healed up fine. I hope Vickie has similar results. We'll be praying for you both.

Just another reminder of how lucky all of us that ride without incident are and how quickly that could change. As always Arland & Vickie, hope the future holds only sunshine for y'all. Anything I can do......just hollar!

Hoping Vickie's surgery goes well and a speedy recovery!

Best to you guys. You got our prayers for sure...

Thanks everyone, I will keep you posted next week. I had her reading your kind and up lifting posts and it made her feel better. She said, we are not even riding and they care about us? I said yes that is the way this group of bikers/friends roll. I reminded her that people that had no clue who we were came to visit us when we were in Vanderbilt Hospital, just like we would have done if it had happened to someone else. Thanks again, we can't wait to see everybody in "The Valley". This year is going to be "LEGENDARY"!!

Vickie's doctor just told me she is doing fine, will be in recovery for another hour. It probably took him less than 10 min. to do the graph. Doctor said all looked good in there, did not see any dead bone or anything abnormal. Thanks everyone for your prayers and thoughts. She has been walking but hopefully by MV she will be walking without crying! I will keep you posted later today.

Just got Vickie home about 5:00pm today. I stayed with her all night in the hospital, she was doing good but I stayed to keep her company. Man that hospital food sucks, I don't think a wild lost dog would eat that stuff. She has a sore throat from the breathing tube. She is no longer complaining about pain deep down in the non union area of her bone. Now it is just surgical pain, which right after surgery she said was about 7/8 and right resting in the bed it is a 3/4. That is a big improvement. She has to wear a boot for six weeks. Thanks everyone for your calls, prayers, healing thoughts. We can't wait to see old friends and new members in Maggie Valley. Mickey has done an outstanding job and it looks like it is going to be a Legendary Event...Don't miss it if you can.

No problem at all! I like the new rain gear!

The doctor removed 18 staples Wed. from Vickie's leg. She said the surgery sight feels better without them and now she can take a shower. She has to wear the boot while walking for four more weeks. Doctor said it would just be another healing period because it was another surgery.
-
Just an update. Oct. 16th Vickie had the fourth surgery on her non union bone in her right leg. She had been in pain but near the end of MV GTG the pain in her leg got worse. Anyway the doctor that did the surgery in Aug. told us her leg had bent again and had not healed and he had done all he could for her and refered us to another doctor in his group. The plan was surgery, replace bent hardware, add cadaver bone piece and an internal bone growth stimulator. Problem was a culture showed bacteria that they say kept the bone from healing. Nothing could be added new. Her leg is in a cast, she is no weight bearing and taking IV antibiotics thru a PICC line twice a day until Nov. 28th. to clear up the infection. Then when all is clear she will have her fifth surgery on her leg to install hardware, bone, growth stimulator, Then during the 6 to 8 weeks more of probably no weight bearing her leg will heal. The battle is still going on..
-
Just sent up a quick request to the man upstairs to hopefully send you some relief..

Same from here Arland. Tough go..still sending out prayers for a recovery. And some relief from the pain,,,, you both are in our thoughts. Stuart
