2014 Questions... Before I buy
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:50:08 AM »

Hello,

Looks like I will be trading in my 2012 RGC CVO for a 2014 Road King CVO... got a few questions:

1. What is included with the bike??  Cover, Bag liners, nice tool kit (photos), I am guessing no gold key?? Just want to make sure it is all there...

2. Does it have slipper clutch?

I will be moving away from my favorite color (Blue) but not a big issue since I like all three colors that the RK CVO comes in...

Asking for the following add ons:

2014 HD Road King CVO
4-Point Docking HW Kit in Black (using the passenger back rest that I have)
Large Rear Docking Hardware Cover Kit - Black
Rear Saddlebag Guards - Black  (I could not find the comfort styled guards in black :( ) Love those in my RGC, but chrome will look out of place with the black front guard)
Transparent Paint Guard Kit for the saddle bags
Service Manual and CVO supplement manual if there is one
Parts Catalog
Long Angled Adjustable Highway Peg Mount Kit - Black... yeah, at 5'7" and shrinking, I need all the help I can get... using the pegs from my current CVO, just need the arms
Battery Tender Harness (just the pig-tail that goes on the battery).  Just in case, on the 48 they forgot to include it...
Jiffy Stand Extension

What other must have mod/part I need to be looking at??  Functional, not decorative...

Thank you!!!  :2vrolijk_21:

I have the Garmin that I was using on my RGC.  Still works fine so I will continue using that one.  I will just need to figure out where to mount it so that it is centralized...

Can you share the stuff that was included with the bike?  The CVO specific items that came with it?

I have a question? Are you out of your mind?
Trading that beautiful blue bike away is crazy.

I know, I know!!  That color combination is the most beautiful combination that I have seen.  I know...

But I want new... I want all the improvements that they have done to these bikes.  The link brakes, the keyless start, the new bags that are soooo much easier to deal with, the improvements to clutch and engine, the new fork setup... Nothing in the 2015 line up screams my name.  The only bike that picked my interest was the 2014 Road King... Love the tribal graphics that they did to it...  I will get it in the Orange/Black combo... paint the 3.3 tank of my 48 in Cobalt Blue/Twilight Blue so I at least get to look at the combination... and then buy the Ducati Panigale that I want...

I have an opportunity to make a deal that will work for me... since the dealers here are not moving the RK as quickly as they thought...

I know that I will regret it... I have been going back and forth on this.  I walk into the garage and see that beauty and tell myself that I am nuts.... but I can't add to the garage like you do... something has to go to get the new stuff.  :-\

:soapbox:     W,  You're giving up a fairing and stereo for a key fob and bag handle?   Linked brakes and a slipper clutch only help those who don't know how to ride.  Heck, those people probably shouldn't ride!    >:(   Can you spell downgrade?   :nixweiss:   JMHO.

END Of Vent.

Good choice on the Orange Black...looks amazing in the sun. Ride is still great for longer trips but get rid of the windshield and replace with standard Road King one unless you are under 5'6"...

Do not wait too long to negotiate with your dealer since there won't be any CVO road kings this year...

1) with my '14 SERK (Tribal Orange & Galactic Black), I received:
     a) CVO bike cover
     b) removable, zippered saddle bag inserts (2)
     c) tool kit (photo attached)
     d) rain sock for air cleaner
     e) FOBs & standard keys (2)
     f) batter tender harness (installed - below LH side cover)

2) as of two weeks ago, the Motor Company has not released a black 4-point docking kit
for the 2014 Touring models - only chrome. That's what I had to go with...I don't think
     they look too bad IMHO.

3) I went with a black sissy bar, though.

4) the backrest pad for the 2013 SERK matched quite well.

I'm thinking about using the factory passenger pegs for highway pegs, and adding
the passenger floorboards for the bride.

You'll love your new scoot - I know I sure do!

Ride safe,
Tractor Bubba

I have the 12 Skunk CVO, my second CVO Road Glide, and a 13 CVO Road King.  If I could only have one bike it would be the RG.  The RG is much better on 600 plus mile days.

That said, for a 200~300 mile day in the mountains I just love my CVO King.

My CVO king is my hot rod, motor is built, and the bike is a blast.  You can tour on the King as mine has been to Key West, and the Apostle Islands in Norther WI.

I am trading my Skunk early Sept for the Blue CVO RG Ultra, it will be for long trips, the King for all the day rides, perfect bike for that.

Can't get in the middle of this one as this is my first Harley, although hired a number before and come from a Kawa Ninja Z10R. All I can say is I researched and test rode hard and the RK came out with most boxes ticked. Will add more to the debate once I have ridden and validated my own prejudices!

Thank you!!!  I too have the passenger backrest out of a FLHXSE3 CVO Street Glide but with the chrome sissy bar... keeping that from the current bike.

Thank you again for confirming the list of items that the bike comes with.

That is the thing... I miss the sport bike that I used to have... and want to get back into one.  If only to get a few miles now and then on it.  Got a major h*on for the Ducati Panigale...

I looked at everything that was coming out for 2015 from HD, and I just do not see anything screaming out my name.  But I have always had a thing for the King...  and you get spoiled after having a CVO, so a base King will not do.  The 2014 RK CVO has all the new stuff, still a CVO, I really like the paint and graphics (just too bad a blue one is not available), and the local dealer has them 3K under MSRP without any negotiation.  So I know that they can come down a bit, plus 20-25% off the parts that I want...  I will still be on a new CVO touring bike and still be able to get the Panigale...

Not an easy decision since I look at the RGC and one minute I am like f* it! not selling, and the other minute is like F* it, let's do this...

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions... cheers!

After a 100-miles ride... here are my comments.

It sure feels like a much smaller bike...
I miss having the gauge cluster within line of sight...  :nixweiss:
You sure feel more protected from everything behind the fairing of the RGC.  No buffeting on the Road King for me... but then again, I am 5'7" and shrinking.  But glad to see that there were no issues with the wind at speeds of 65-70-80  (I kept the bike under 3K rpms... break in period you know...).  It will take some time to get used to not having the fairing...  :nixweiss:
Beautiful bike.  Love the tribal details on the paint  :2vrolijk_21:
Those bags are awesome!!  I was able to get my wallet from the bag without getting off the bike!!  Try that with the older bags...  :2vrolijk_21:
No lowers... meaning that with the wind, I could not feel any heat from the engine.  That was a nice surprise since even without lower on the RGC I could feel the heat... engine was so quiet.  Must be because it is new or something, but not as noisy as the RGC...   :2vrolijk_21:
Full chrome wheels, this is a personal preference... but I liked the black and chrome combination of the rims on the RGC... just goes better with the black on the bike.  :nixweiss:
There is definitely a change in the seat... that or the whole bike is lower than the RGC... I was closer to the ground which was also a nice and positive surprise  :2vrolijk_21:
A friend was riding behind my bike... and even if the RGC rear lights look much better integrated to the fairing, he was telling me that the RK lights were much brighter.  :2vrolijk_21:
Headlight - friend has an RGC with the Daymaker LEDs headlights... much, much better than the one in the RK.  RK illuminated the road well, but the RGC lights were better...  :nixweiss:

All in all, very happy with the bike.  It will take some getting used to it, but I like it!

Lousy phone photo...

Now to install all those black parts that I got with it!!   :orange:
