Very historic footage.

Never got to ride "over the water", but brought back a quite few memories: the top hill wheelies, the wiggle under hard breaking and most of all, the long uphill high speed pass - i'd guess he's running just shy of 200 ny the speed of the white lines...

F1 / Unlimited - YEAH BABY!!!

Just before the "new footage" begins, there is a long shot of a number 10 bike being push started - Yamaha TZ250. I had the same bike as my first "competitive" ride. Two cylinder, Two stroke, liquid cooled 6 speed. Usable RPM range was between 10,000 and 12,000 rpms. 60 horsepower with an explosive power band - good for bout 160 mph.

Think I'll watch it again - then hit eBay to see if there are any "used" bikes out there....:)

Does that mean it is a dog below 10K, or just doesn't pull real hard until you hit the upper limit

Fastest bike I ever rode was a scary 750 Kaw 2 stroke, crack the throttle in 3rd gear at 70 and the front wheel went skyward! [smiley=sweatdrop.gif]

Porthole -

Below 10k your fouling plugs and above 12k your breaking rods. You learned finesse with the throttle and clutch - Bike was incredibly fast for what it was - 6 gallons of gas, sitting on the starting line weighed just over 220 lbs: lots of thin fiberglass, aluminum and magnesium. Geared for longer tracks (Texas World or Daytona) it would run just a hair over 160mph. Grin factor was definitely off the scale.

My girls dyna glide was rumoured to be able to do third gear wheelies when we purchased it. You know I had to test the theory. While doing 60 in 4th downshifted to third, cracked the throttle, front tire in the sky! Had it dynoed at a bike show recently, only shows 101 hp but could not get a torque reading cuz she has screamin eagle split plugs. My fatboy is putting down 107 lbs of torque and I know her bike is pulling much harder than mine!

Naitram,

Love it...In addition to the Maggie Valley display of historical references to motorcycles, if you have never been to the Barber Motor Sports in Birmingham, AL, it's worth the trip if in the area...
