10/8/11 Cherohala Skyway Day Trip
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:46:50 PM »

Jill and I decided to take a long day trip from the house over to the Skyway and then over to Robbinsville, NC.  Unfortuantely, over The Dragon, then to Dragon HD for some 100 octane fuel then on to dinner at Smoky Mountain HD in Maryville. Great day and glad to say its normally a 3 to 4 hour ride. Remember I said "Normally"!

Bike locked and loaded

We thought that the cooler nights would show us more colors at the bottom of the mountain but wasnt the case yet. For those of you who might plan a trip in the next few weeks it should peak in 2 weeks.

Then we encountered this unfortunate situation. A bad accident involving 2 (you guessed it) sport bikes approaching each other from opposite directions and one slid out from under him and took the other bike out like a bowling pin. Speed and inexperience but it is what it is. Airforce units from 2 states removing the injured.

Mountain was very crowded and at times we said is this Sturgis or East Tennessee? Very nice day and all looked to be having a good time. Look at bikes going in all directions.

Beautiful scenery.  We rode the area back in August.  Had a similar issue with bike crashes on the BRP that tied up traffic for hours.

Backroad Mike you are correct remember when I said it should only take 3 to 4 hours.... oh it gets better. We then head out of Robbinsville, NC over to the dragon to the store for good fuel. On the way we found the "Water Flowing"

Finally at Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson. I need a firepit and an adult beverage. As we stood around CVOJOE says "Wow I don't remember when we had 5 CVO Road Glides all here at the same time"?

Tennessee and Georgia are tied up at 6 at the half and Jill says we have to watch this SO our good buddy CVOJOE says "why don't you stay at the house tonight we can fire up the 65" plasma and watch the game"?

A great end to a very long day!!

Well Tennessee got killed by the bulldogs in the end. Great night of sleep. Thanks Joe. We awake, shower and have a big breakfast. Then Joe says I've been reading on the "site" about how to install my Garmin on the skunk and have all the voice activation like the Road Glide Ultra. I said "you are going to do what"? Well have you ever just decided to take your bike apart?

Joe are you having fun???

Well after the lesson on "How to install a Garmin GPS on your bike" we pack up and head to the delaership for lunch then say our goodbyes. What started out with a simple slow paced day ride turned into an overnight stay. We were blessed with a beautiful day and great friends.

Busy week with work and the kids then Off To Daytona later this week. You have to love it when the grandparents take the kids to Disney for fall break. Honey pack the bags  :orange: :mango: :bananarock:
