Anyone tried the Switchback Jacket
« on: July 29, 2009, 02:43:48 PM »

I am looking at getting into a new jacket and noticed this line.  I am not sure of the nylon stuff compaired to leather but I like the idea that it can be water proof. So you would already have a rain coat while out on a ride instead of packing rain gear.

Just looking and wondering what others thoughts are on this.

Have and like my FXRG but have looked at the Switchback in the store.  Lighter and more versatile that FXRG.... Not cheap!

Did you see this?

tis a great jacket, but i cant see the point of the water proof liner being on the inside of the jacket, if its rainin i am not so anal to displace the eagle while getting everything in my pockets wet! i prefer my water proofing to be on the outside of my jacket

I hear ya there.  But I was thinking it would work quite well as a rain coat with the same thought as the packable rain gear - the pants. You will probably be wearing the coat and just add the liner and then you have a rain coat. HMMM?

i wouldnt wear the rain jacket in the back pouch provided, make you look like a hunchback.........i must say i use the rain liner more as a windbreak its very effective.  i do like the jacket but am still sceptical over rain useage

I have one and like it alot. I took the liner and just through it in the corner.
I keep one of the rain suits in the saddle bags just in case I need it. They
make wet liner you can wear on the inside for when your riding on really hot
days.  It's a heavy jacket though.

having ridden on day trips with this jacket a few times now, i now find i dont keep rain liner attached to the jacket anymore, i just put the liner on and zip it up first then put the jacket on, the rain liner really is quite effective to keep the cold wind out. I have been in a few rain showers (that didnt warrent stopping to put rain gear on as i could see blue sky ahead) with the jacket on and i must say i remained dry!
But if i had to ride any distance in torrential rain i would put my rain jacket over the top.

My wife has the ladies version of this jacket. It is a flexible jacket for colder mornings with warmer afternoons in that she can start with the liner in, remove the liner when it warms up a bit and then remove the center piece revealing the mesh when it gets warmer yet. I would not consider it a rain jacket as the jacket gets soaked when wet, just the liner prevents the rain from reaching the rider. If rain is in the forecast, she's wearing her FXRG jacket. That keeps you dry!

We do like the SE graphics and the cool way the jacket transforms but be careful what you expect of it.

I've been looking at this but all I really want is a twill SE Jacket but they don't have a new one to replace the discontinued black with orange piping.
