         375 runs through open range in NV and we did see a couple of cattle which had been hit and killed.  Even the road signs were a bit different!

       375 continues south and east until it hits Nevada Highway 318 site of the Silver State Classic Challenge which is set for this coming weekend, Sept. 13-16.  "The State of Nevada closes down 90 miles of Route 318 and more than 200 drivers from around the world converge on the little town of Ely in the central high desert of Nevada. Why do they come? To experience first-hand the adrenaline rush of driving flat-out on a public highway. Not just professional racers, but men and women from all walks of life, pursuing the Walter Mitty dream of speed, horsepower, and high performance. Yes, there’s a place for everyone in the Silver State Classic Challenge events."

     We took the 93, The Great Basin Highway east through Calente and St. George into Kanab Utah.  377 miles.  Monday it was on the road again with our first stop at the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.

       After breakfast in Page, UT, we took the 98 east to the 160.  We took a slight detour and visited the Navajo National Monument located within the northwest portion of the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona.  It preserves three of the most intact cliff dwellings of the ancestral puebloan people (Hisatsinom). The Navajo people who live here today call these ancient ones Anasazi. The monument is high on the Shonto plateau, overlooking the Tsegi Canyon system in the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona. The monument, located west of Kayenta, Arizona, features a visitor center with a museum, two short self-guided mesa top trails, two small campgrounds, and a picnic area. Rangers guide visitors on free tours of the Keet Seel (Kitsʼiil) and Betatakin (Bitátʼahkin) cliff dwellings. The Inscription House site (Tsʼah Biiʼ Kin), further west, is currently closed to public access.

       The 160 continues east until almost the New Mexico border where it turns northeast.  It crosses a bit of NM so small that there are no signs so indicating.  It crosses into Utah at Monument Valley where the view is humbling, to say the least!  God bless John Wayne and John Ford!
