2003 serk 103 cam tensioners

(1/1)

jpparks66:
I was curious if anyone has had to change the  tensioners on the  2003 serk 103, and if so which tensioners are in it?if they arent geared instead of chains. also what are the signs of needing replacement ? if any other than just the mileage itself.?
thanks very much for any help with this.

thank you for the information, i wiil definately be doing the upgrade to hydraulic tensioners, cant quite afford the gear drive right now. {1st time posting and still workin on how to reply } its nice to get real info from people who know. again thank you.

SIKBIRD:
Pop the cam cover off and have a look.  If it hasn’t been converted to gear drive or upgraded with hydraulic tensioners then you definitely need to change them if they are original, even if it’s a low mileage bike.  The heat cycles make the tensioners brittle and they’ll crumble on you.  For replacement on my 04 SEEG and my dad’s 03 RK, we used Cyco brand and just replaced the shoes rather than the whole spring tensioner.

Finster101:
Converting to the hydraulic tensioners is well worth the investment.

Go gear drive and never look back. My pads broke during disassembly for conversion. Talk about last minute.
