Title: Harley ride planner & GPS
Post by: Hondo2doc on October 17, 2023, 09:34:15 AM
First I'd be curious how many members actually use the ride planner or another similar route planner that can be sent to your bikes GPS? Me personally, I love planning routes via ride planner and sending them to my bike.

Now I also will use android auto navigation for the on the fly point to point GPS. But 2 things. I haven't found a way to create a route save it then send it to Waze for example. Also I have run into some reliability issues using cell tower navigation when in very remote areas.

I mentioned in another thread on here that I'd love to replace (upgrade) the existing GTS head unit with something better. But the aftermarket head units don't seem to have true GPS units in them. And I can't figure out why. When most aftermarket head units do offer siriusxm radio......which works from satellites. So go figure.

So does anyone know of a way to plot a route with say Waze and send to the bike? Or is there a work around for not having a true GPS?

I build all my routes with MYROUTEAPP put them on a thumb drive and then import them to the GTS very easy. The hard part is to find the import screen if you have not found it yet. You have to scroll the screen to the left.

I use ride planner still, I tried Rever and it worked pretty well but aside from the Butler Maps feature I didnt find it better or worse than Ride Planner so I stick with it.  I do use Android Auto when getting to a destination and just need a quick route to something.

Like others have said, I use the planner for the routes, load it onto media, and then download it into other applications or navigation systems.  Works for me, your mileage may vary.

I too use ride planner for doing specific routes I want to take.  Especially for day rides out of the area we are staying.

For quick get some where I use CarPlay.

Anyone use the bike's recorded rides instead of the phone App for HD App challenges.
