GXM Antenna Not Working moisture inside
« on: October 19, 2009, 01:45:37 AM »

After riding through the rain in MV09, my GXM was exposed to more elements than it should have. I could see moisture building up inside. Well, I tried it out this afternoon and it powered up for a minute and actually gave me an accurate reading for a few minutes before dying. I will call Garmin tomorrow b ut has anyone experienced this? I'm wondering if it dries out a little more if it will resume functionality?
TIA,
AJ

Where do you have it mounted? Got mine on top of radio under batwing. No moisture there.  :nixweiss:

Fortunately it worked fine today! I'll hold off calling Garmin for now.

I got the bracket from a place that Duane recommended. I can't remember where.

I guess I'm going to have to. I am surprised that a weather proof unit that is supposed to meet IXP7 standards will allow moisture in.

AJ I wonder if the way you have it mounted is causing your problem. I know it is supposed to be waterproof, but you have the holes for the mounting screws in the "in your face" rain position.

I have mine horizontal and did not have any water problems during the trip, and I hit more and harder rain for a longer period of time then I have before. Although my stupid $130 dipstick did leak and stop working.

My GXM antenna is mounted horizontal also -and has been in torrential rain without any moisture getting inside....   :nixweiss:

Maybe your mounting orientation is an issue??  More likely your unit is not properly sealed??
