Title: USB Cable / iPhone 10 compartment -Solved
Post by: VRODDAVE on June 15, 2020, 03:45:39 PM
iPhone X does not seem to fit into compartment with USB cable, has anyone tried extending the cable to the tour pack? If so does it work?
Thanks
Dave

I got this cable and can now fit my iPhone in the cubby. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MYV23M2/ref=dp_cerb_2 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MYV23M2/ref=dp_cerb_2)

Sorry couldn't answer the question.

Don’t have an answer to your question exactly, but don’t see why that couldn’t be done.
I have a cable like posted above. I have the XS Max and it will just fit in the compartment. I remove the foam from the compartment and plug in the phone and it will just fit in with the door closed.

Thanks to both for the tip

OK, so I wanted to do an update to my update. I ordered and received the 90° lightning five or 6 inch cable that was suggested earlier in the thread. I tried using it with the iPhone X and just couldn’t make things fit in the compartment to my satisfaction. So I went ahead and moved forward with the 10 foot USB extension cable in order to move the iPhone into the tour pack.    Purchased a good quality USB extension cable off Amazon with black braid, and I was able to fish it through the gap of the phone compartment to come out the bottom with out having to disassemble front faring.  Ran The cable under the tank and follow the existing harnesses into the tour pack. Then I used that 90° inside the tour pack to connect the phone to the USB extension.   I used a Dremel to widen the little index hole inside the compartment that the foam protector uses as an index and I was able to put the USB cable through that hole with a little finessing which allowed the door to close easily
The whole install tooth all of 20 minutes, and it works just as expected.

Bottom line , a good quality 10 foot USB extension cable will work with CarPlay just fine

I’m not sure it’s worthy of a photo but I’ll see if I can get one and attach it tomorrow

I extended my USB cable to the tour pak using a 6ft extension. Removed the fairing and took the cable out of the media compartment and routed along left side into the wiring tray under the fuel tank so the connection would be enclosed, then ran extension to the tour pak into the same grommet as the rest of the wiring and it ended nicely by the power port with no excess wire.
