Installing WHIM
« on: July 24, 2020, 04:41:54 PM »

Well, finally purchased my WHIM from a member here on the "Selling" page.

Watched a few videos and since I already installed an amplifier myself, seems straightforward.

Two questions for the group:

1. Anyone see a need to remove gas tanks and run update cable to side panel, or can I zip tie extra and leave it near neck?

2. If HD can install for $200, do you think it is worth that money not to have to remove the fairing Etc to DIY?

I already had the WHIM "turned on" by the dealer for use of Apple Carplay, so that is not needed

Thanks in advance

It's very easy to install. Don't take the tank off. I ran mine with the other wire on the neck and zip tied it just in front of the tank.

i agree.  leave the tank alone.  on mine, i ran the cable just under the right fairing speaker.  taking the fairing off on a road glide (2015 and newer) is a piece of cake.  it's a very easy install.

I agree on fairing, had 2011 RG and trying to hang fairing on hooks was near impossible. Had 2019 fairing off for amp, piece of cake. Love the speaker idea, covers are a cinch to pop off. Any issues with cable intercea with speaker cone?

none.  it's hard to see the perspective, but in the 2nd picture, the cable doesn't actually get in the way of the speaker at all.  the speaker grill slots act as a 'hold down' and keep the cable routed around the perimeter.
