The stock hardware can work quite well with a change in pads.  Try Lyndall or DP.  Significant difference in how well your stock hardware will work.

Down here at Traxxion Dynamics today having my front suspension done and Max tells me he will be offering brake pads soon.  Starting out with pads for the Goldwing 1800 but plans to add Harley pads later.  Made overseas but to his specs with machined plates vs the normally stamped ones the pads are bonded to.  More true and not affected by heat.  We'll want to stay on top of this a give them a try.  Probably not until next year though.

Don, do you know if the Lyndall plates are stamped?

Jerry, I had a used Lyndall in the bottom of the tool box.  Look at it I don't think it is laser cut.  Would bet against odds it's a stamped backplate.

I rode their GoldWing at Traxxion Dynamics both with and without the brake pads Jerry is talking about installed on their bike.  The immediate difference was a night and day comparison.  Have no idea how they might do for endurance of course.  But the braking difference was remarkable.  Better than the Lyndalls or DPs have used before.

Agreed....I got to ride the same bike, and the difference in a simple pad change was truely amazing....I would never have beleived it had I not felt it.  We will definitely want to keep an eye open and ear to the ground for this new product offering from Traxxion.

Well,  not us Terry.  We couldn't use them anyway.  Don't have stock calipers and pads anymore.

This is true, Obi Wan....

Wonder if the PM or Hawg Halters are some standard sized pad?  I would imagine there's quite a few of those two brands out there in use.

It ain't the brake pads that made you feel the difference  ;D

Actually Wayne, in this case it was.  The pads that is.  We were very specifically doing a before and after ride.  Rode the bike with the stock pads.  Took the stock pads off and installed these new pads Max is testing.  Then rode the bike again on the same route doing the same stops.  Was an immediate and noticable difference.  And it was all pads.

An example:

I used a particular driveway as a marker to hit the brakes as hard as I could at a specific speed.  The bike stopped at a given point and the ABS on the bike engaged for about two seconds.

With the new pads hit the brakes just as hard at the same speed from the same spot.  The ABS didn't even engage but the bike stopped about 20 foot shorter.  This was only from 50 mph on a short stretch of road.
