Title: New CVO Street glide colour to be launched!...oh yes
Post by: Wild Hog 4 on January 17, 2015, 09:20:31 PM
Just went down local dealer today , was told Harley are to launch a new mid year colour for the 2015 CVO street glide..... That's right boys and girls!
if I remember correctly it is to be mirage orange or something with titanium dust, my local dealer are getting one, they have no idea what it looks like as Harley have not released pictures yet anywhere, probably will be limited numbers at a higher price I suspect!
Any guys out there hear this also?
Maybe that's why they stopped production of the yellow Cvo to make way for this colour!
One things for certain it will be another colour for them to deal with regarding paint quality issues :D

Just remember you heard it here first!! :2vrolijk_21:

I was at the dealer today where I have my deposit down on a Hard Candy which is due in April. Nothing was mentioned about a new color but I will certainly inquire tomorrow or Monday.

Oh MYYYY! If it's MIRAGE ORANGE or anything close, I may be in serious trouble...  :'(

The Mirage Orange Pearl on the '09 RGs was one of the BEST colors to have ever graced a Harley... even though it has never been used on a CVO.

Yes thought that this news may throw a spanner in the works! especially when so many of us have deposits on these Cvo's already.
My dealer is not usually wrong as he has strong connections with the Harley UK head office for Europe, I suspect a lot of dealers would not want to jeopardise pre orders with customers by mentioning this to them,.
But looks like it should be a Terrific combo, it's certainly to be an orange of some kind with black/ grey  titanium dust........ Thought this news would get a lot of us salivating!!!

Ken, I feel your pain, it will be hard to pass on another orange, however we have the best colour "Hot Citrus" still amazes me on the colour difference on a sunny and over cast day.
I did concider adding a 2015 SG to my den but early days for the wet heads.

And which dealer meeting was that exactly?
And if no one knew about it,then how could they ask the question :confused5:

I have seen the order on my dealers spreadsheet, he has one hard candy Mercury coming and one of this mirage orange /titanium dust ....
Me thinks you will be eating humble pie on this one buddy! :D

Not announced at the winter dealer's meeting (which ended today) usually means ain't going to happen. Straight from an insiders mouth. Unless he wasn't paying attention during that part.

Yes he must have been asleep! Whatever!
All I know is what I saw on the order form in black and white! not what someone told me at a dealer meeting,   Did this dealer meeting announce previously about ceasing production of the yellow Cvo, did it mention a few years ago about pulling the plug on the breakout Cvo when many people had orders confirmed ? I think not,,, my point being a multi million dollar company can do what they bl@@dy please ,when they please and usually do...
Only time will tell on this one , let us see.

I'm wondering if they do it if they will just reverse the Ultra Violet/Hot Lava paint scheme.....

If so the Hot Lava will look like a orange version of the silver Hard Candy

Well i am not one to say i told you so but..........I told you so!! Humble pie for those non believers!!  :D :D :D

But seriously my dealer will be getting one, i was in there today and correction it is carbon dust flames with i think mirage orange, anyway the build date for the one he has coming is April build, so i won't see it in flesh till mid May i think, still that is one wicked colour scheme, i think thats why they stopped the yellow one to make way for this colour.  :jalapeno:

Maybe HD is doing something different over there in Europe in offering other colors. Or maybe it just has not gotten out or been announced over here yet. But I think I personally would like the Lava Orange better, more metal flake in the paint and also more chrome instead of the blacked out look. Should be a nice bike if so, either way.

I said a long time ago in some post here that the Ultraviolet Blue with Hot Lava flames would have been better reversed. That Hot Lava is one HOT color...  although I will have to see it in person to decide if it's better than Hot Citrus! Frankly, that's a tall order.

Guess we'll have to wait to see what actually comes out...

Of course I would but I'm happy with my beautiful orange RK. After all the money that I have spent on her so far and my plans to fit a batwing I am going to have to keep her for a bit. I just need to keep away from dealers if that colour gets released

yeah i feel your hurt! .....you may have to go "cold turkey" and keep away for a bit, probably best then i don't mention then the dealer that is getting one!. :2vrolijk_21:
on another note bav i think the orange and black will be a very close match to our cvo road kings, maybe the orange though will have a wee bit more metalflake in it,
however i wouldn't be surprised to see a higher price tag on this one seeing as it may have a limited number produced.

I sent an email to the sales person at my local dealer inquiring about the new color. Haven't heard any confirmation on it yet as I wait for my hard candy to arrive in April. This could sway me but it really depends on the orange color. Also... I've been waiting since Sept for the hard candy color, how much longer would I have to wait if the dealer can even get one in orange?  I also agree with the comment above, I think chrome would really "pop" against that color combo.

Maybe,... but it seems i'd be the right side of "the pond", if i wanted this orange mid year CVO colour that you guys {bar a few}are pretty sure that your not getting:D :D :D.

However be honest Kingdong no one in the US got any 2015 Cvo's in july last year!, especially as they wern't released till late August!, :huepfenlol2:
yes you Guys were lucky to have received them around september time, us guys in uk have to wait a bit longer until harley get there F**king act together!
but i shouldn't hold your breath on the 120r engine  being introduced in 2016, if history has taught us anything then i would say that harley will introduce this engine in 2017/2018 with possibly a full liquid cooled system and upgrade the standard non cvo's bikes to the 110 engine. ,they have given us the Rushmore bits and hope that will keep us all quiet for a bit, i don't think they will play there "Trump" card until they really have to, yes Victory have there 112cu  engine... big whoop! have you seen the resale value on those ugly things?. :P

You may ask them to verify that as my dealer originally had the same thing then it was gone.  Hence they refunded my deposit.   :nixweiss:  :nixweiss:

Two of the local dealers just publicly announced a 2015.5 FLHXSE in Carbon Crystal with Phantom Flames.

I haven't seen anything from the MoCo directly, yet.

Wild Hog 4,
Waiting is part of the CVO process...... well, at least for this CVO SG selling season. Plenty of folks waiting and waiting. I've been waiting for five months and it looks like another one or two may pass before I see mine. I have noticed a few dealers have the black CVO SG sitting on their showroom floor, for those looking for a black CVO SG..... they are out there.

SmokeEm,

Was it Brandon HD?  I just briefly mentioned it to Fletch the SM and he didn't respond.

I was at my local dealer today and he was checking on something else for me and ran across an email from the MOCO that said there is a new color coming for the 2015 FLHXSE and he in fact has one due to be delivered within this period.

Yeah i'm well aware buddy, i've done my share of waiting i can say, i waited 6 months for my CVO limited to arrive!!, i was just stating that models launches are not in May and no one gets them in July thats all, we all are waiting as you say whichever side of the pond you are!!
But interestingly a couple of dealers are saying that this years launch {for the 2016's} is possibly going to be in october! don't know if thats true thats just what they have said,
maybe its to give Harley an extra month to finish production, and gives the dealers extra time to shift old stock and customers a month less to wait {he wishes!}, they seem to push launch dates back later and later every year as i could've sworn that the  2010 model year was launched in around July time....
Hope you get your ride soon   :2vrolijk_21:

Maybe they gave Gunslinger the boot and just did it in house...that's why it is simple.

Like I said, I haven't seen anything from the MoCo.  I just saw this and a similar one yesterday, posted on the FB pages of two local dealers.  I do agree that, as Greg mentioned, it does look similar to the '12.  Still more evidence needed to confirm if it's genuine, IMO.

It is possible that they were both duped, but I do know that both pages that were posted from are the legitimate pages for the respective dealers.

Looks like the GunSlinger bikes will be a bit special, yer the colors are in your face but that's the CVO thing.
Now i wonder if my HC silver will actually be built, I will be real pissed if i miss out.  :nervous:
The whole 2015 CVO Street Glide fiasco is turning into a complete stuff up on Harley's part, even the dealers are getting over it.

the new bike is real. they are only building 750 units, so i have heard. I also heard (please don't kill messenger) that due to all the paint issues that MoCo is no longer building anymore of the SG CVO's for this year, other than this black one. I have heard this from a reputable dealer but i have no way of confirming beyond that.  I am sending an email to a contact I have in Milwaukee to see if I can get any more info.

So it looks like you were right Wild Hog.  The last laugh is on all the nay sayers.

I have only washed a couple of times so I can not comment on the clear coat.  I did have a number of paint issues.  Lower fairing had silver showing where orange should be, saddle bag lid had silver spot, fairing had dull spot (dealer was able to buff out).  I also have a big gap between outer and inner fairing.

I have also heard that the Hard Candy has 9 coats of clear and that a number of folks have cracking issues specifically around where screws/bolts are.

Well now that it sounds like we might have problems getting painted parts in the future I will post this email exchange I had with "Gunslinger". It is mostly what we already know but it does include the specific clear they use and a recommended compatible harder clear if it comes to that. The email trail starts at the bottom and proceeds upward, of course.

Hi Howard,

I talked to our lead painter; he said he would recommend a finishing glaze (he specifically mentioned the Meguiar’s brand) and a high-end wax. Use a microfiber cloth like you have been, but don’t press hard, just give the bike a light wipe. He said the weather won’t really change the cure time, but although it’s safe to use wax after 90-days, the clear will continue to harden some for up to one year. We use PPG DCU 5200, if you were to re-clear your parts, PPG’s DCU 4000 would be a harder clear option.

Hi Shauna,

Thanks for the prompt reply and advise. It is much appreciated. I understand that the custom paint and clear will require special care compared to factory paint. That is just reality.

I am trying to find out how to best do that and really appreciate your advise. If I could ask a couple follow up questions please. Is there a sealant that you could recommend such as Opti-Coat or other that could improve scratch resistance?     I figure my paint is approximately 120 days curing time at this point. I live in Washington and we have had no sun to speak of, or warm weather. My garage is not heated, but is insulated. Is it possible that under these circumstances the standard cure time of 90 days may require even more than the current 120 days? I am just hoping it will get harder.

Please forgive me if I seem like a pain. The paint and quality is beautiful and outstanding.  I plan to ride the hell out of the bike like I do all my bikes and want to spend more time doing that rather than polishing it with a DA buffer. I just want to do whatever I can to make that happen. Depending upon your suggestions to the previous questions (and in a worst case scenario) is it feasible to spray a different clear that is harder on top of this clear? Obviously I don't want to do this, but if I have to I will. If so, what would be the suggested compatible clear to do so?

Many Thanks Shauna! I just feel like if I even look at the bike wrong is scratches. It really is soft right now. I am not kidding!

Hi Howard,

Those swirl marks are inevitable. Although, you are correct that they are easier to obtain when the clear cost is fresh, they will continue to occur anytime contact is made with the clear. You’ll want to use a microfiber cloth, but you should make sure it’s lubricated; Harley sells a line of their own cleaning products, we also recommend S100 cleaners. You should also make sure your bike is completely rinsed before wiping it down to avoid dragging dust particles that scratch the clear. You can have the bike detailed throughout its life to minimize the swirl marks as much as possible.

Regarding curing time, this is the statement we give with our custom paint jobs: Curing period is up to 90 days on your new paint. During this time you should try to keep the vehicle free of tree sap, bird droppings, or anything that may stain the paint. Droplets of water combined with the bright sun can act like a magnifying glass to burn little spots in the paint and should be removed with a soft cloth after a rain. Finally, for six-weeks during this curing period, do not use any wax.

Thanks,

Completely agree Ken! CVO bikes should stand out not blend in! Those with black controls are disappointing. They all leak and the finish ends up destroyed. For premium money they should use chrome or black chrome...

I had my batwing fairing replaced yesterday. It arrived after being ordered several weeks ago because my original part had paint flaws (listed elsewhere in a thread). My rear fender also has asymmetrical flames (caused by inexpertly-applied pinstriping), but that was not deemed to be a flaw and was not replaced.

I have ridden in rain a couple of times and washed the bike once. Dried it with a Harley heated air blower and microfibre cloth. I can confirm that I now have microscratches on the clear on the tank and on the bag lids. The clear is VERY SOFT.

I was hoping this bike might be a keeper. But whilst it rides exceptionally well, I know it will look like a POS after a couple of years. Definitely not a long term proposition. Stay away from these Gunslinger-painted CVOs this year. Not worth the money IMHO.

Disclaimer: Some here will argure that theirs is perfect and I am whining. Fair call. But my experience is honest and real, and it has p155ed me off big time after dropping $50,000 AUD on an imperfect motorcycle.

I hear you phantomxrt. At this point I am praying that the clear continues to harden enough (as the painter mentioned) over this coming year that I can live with it. Otherwise I will have to get it re-sprayed with the mentioned "harder" clear. That's why I was brown-nosing them hoping I could drag the clear info out of them.

The clear REALLY is ridiculously soft. Me and a buddy rode our bikes to the dealer so that I could get the 1K service done, and then ride the coast after. I told them I love everything about the bike, but the clear is unbelievably soft. I said, "because of that DO NOT WASH IT!" I had just spent another weekend polishing it out with a DA polisher and doing the whole Glare recommended routine. Well maybe they did not wash it, but if you even breath on this thing it scratches like a spider web everywhere. They wiped it down because it had the micro-spiderweb scratches everywhere AGAIN.

Unfortunately, I absolutely dig this bike in every way, the color, the flames, the ride, the whole package. I'm not getting rid of it. I'm adding the Fulsac stainless DX pipe and TTS tomorrow, and riding the hell out of it this weekend. If it is not raining, we ride here. Sometimes even if it is.

The 2015 CVO SG is starting to remind me of the 2011 CVO SG. Both are first year production with fancy paint and stereo's. With the 2011 we found out that the amps where garbage which where causing speakers and tweeters to go. Also they had issues with the green paint. They got it right in 2012. Don't recall too many post for the 2012's. Now the 2015's are here and paint and stereo threads are popping up again. :nixweiss:

Maybe the 2016's or second year production is the way to go. Might be worth the wait to avoid the problems.

The paint quality on my bike is really on par with standard HD bikes.  The only issue (if you want to call it an issue) is that on the inside lip of the saddle bag lid, the paint isn't even.  There is one spot that I noticed where the silver flake is a little off...but it's about the size of a pin head.  I had worse flaws on my 4 previous bikes.

This new bike doesn't stand out from the crowd as a CVO should.  It's a feeble attempt be harley to band aid the real problem.  I'm sure the MOCO has enough money to dedicate to making the CVOs in house where they can check things before they go out to the customer.....

That may be the problem. Until 2010, I think, CVO'S were made on there own line in a different factory. They were integrated into the regular production and scheduled there runs there. Wait, this is some of the same crap people complained about before. Disregard.

If you can expand the tank picture it sure looks like the graphics on your 2012. I used to have a black 2012 CVO Street Glide before my 2015.

Maybe the mother ship has some leftover inventory.

If I see or hear anything while I am in Daytona I'll let you guys know. We are staying right next to Daytona Harley.

The Harley Demo truck will be at the Daytona Speedway with some of the execs.

70--80's maybe some rain.

No... Tampa Harley Davidson on Dale Mabry, ask for Ray Bragg the sales manager. I know Brandon is part of the Florida Harley Group (Tampa, Brandon, New Port Richey, Tallahassee and Panama City Beach) but I don't do business with Brandon H-D.

Gunslinger paints the majority of the CVO's for The Motor Company. I've NEVER had a bad paint job on a CVO. I truly believe that most CVO owners shouldn't buy CVO's, they should buy a standard bike and have the dealership or another entity customize their bike. They're always complaining about everything yet they still keep going back and buying another CVO. My friend has the blue CVO Breakout and all he does is bitch, bitch, bitch about every little thing and I just laugh at him. I told him the same thing, sell it or trade it in, buy a stock Breakout and get it done your way. I for one have always felt privileged to own every one of my CVO's and have never gotten anything but compliments on every aspect of my CVO's. If anyone ever walked up to me and picked my bike apart I'd just figure that it was some asshole who was either just that or jealous. I'll climb down off my soap box now. Not trying to stir up a bunch of hate mail but...

You'll get no hate mail from me. I've noticed that this forum seems to be mostly dissatisfied owners, but it also is a good place for info. For example, I had never heard of Dragos Bike Works, or Fullsac before getting on here. I'm on my first CVO and I love it. I've gone over every bike I've ever owned with a fine toothed comb. I check them out in the sun, in the shade, and with bright flash lights, and I haven't found anything to complain about on my bike. I did find some things on my 2010 Heritage, and a Honda VTX I had about twelve years back. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not alone in loving my CVO and Harleys in general.

Other then the inconsistency on the inside/underside on my saddle bag lids, this paint is on par with the standard HD bikes.   I've even seen the same issue on new standard bikes that I've checkd on dealer floors.  This forum is probably less then 1% of CVO owners....so I'm sure CVOs are just the same as any other manufacturer.

That's true. I know a bunch of guys with Street Glide Specials. They have more $$$ into them, including purchase price, than I have in my CVORK (I didn't pay list). What they have is a little more than 100 hp compared to my 97.5, and somewhere around 105 lbs/ft compared to my 118. Aside from that, their bikes blend in with all the other Street Glides in the lot. Don't get me wrong, they're beautiful bikes and had I not gotten the CVORK I'd probably be one of the guys trying to find his Street Glide, hoping he's not sitting on some other dude's bike.

Skullplant, I got to see that SESG in yellow and black last weekend in person and that is a stunning ride. Puma, I'm glad to hear you enjoy your SERK. Great color combo too! cyco1450, thank you and how can you not like an orange and black HD. SDCVO, love those SERGC's! dean 77, I was very tempted to trade my bike for the SESG in Hard Candy this year but since that color and the yellow and black were so difficult to get, I didn't have the chance., and Nicky Pass, thank you as well. It's nice to hear folks say that they love their CVO's for a change. I agree that this forum probably represents 1% of the CVO owners and it is a good source of information when it comes to modifying your bike and I guess you just have to take all the complaining with a grain of salt. Thanks again for not reading me the riot act. Y'all ride safe!

I agree and really love my CVO. Are there things I would change? Sure and I have but overall it's the best motorcycle I've ever owned.
We read all the issues and assume everyone has the issue when many do not. Not saying the bikes are perfect but I can't think of much that is. Ride them and enjoy. Reading this forum does provide good information and much food for thought. It can also be quite expensive!

I beg to differ.  Sending out bikes with such flawed paint that dealers won't sell them to customers isn't a case of a "late Friday" assembly.  Apparently the paint is so flawed the MoCo had to scramble to introduce a replacement paint scheme for the SESG.  Rolling out 110 engines with lifter and compensator problems...for several years?  Engines with flaking powder coating?  Chome that blisters, peels, and detaches?  Rushmore infotainment systems that don't work as designed?  Rolling out a water cooling system that loses coolant?  110's that use a qt of oil every 1,000 miles?  These are not "late Friday" assembly issues.  I love my CVO, but if being rational, I shouldn't be able to justify why.

I agree 100% But we still keep buying the bikes, i love my Harley and cant wait for my new CVO to arrive even tho i fully expect it to have a few issues. This is crazy i know, we pay all this money for a top quality motorcycle and we forgive Harley for not delivering the item as advertised.
Just think what you could purchase with $40,000 + bucks from another manufacturer, would we put up with something that was not up to scratch. We are playing with a supposedly high end bike the equivalent of AMG and the like in the car industry.
I recon its time to make company people/team leaders/inspectors all accountable for there lack of efficiently , instead of hiding behind the WE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU union crap there is no place for this in our modern manufacturing age. We must become more efficient or we will loose to you know who. And this applies to us Australians as well.   :nixweiss:
Harley really needs to lift its act and focus on reliability and above all else made in the USA means quality.
Us old buggers put up with a lot and hardly say anything, while the new breed coming up behind wont put up with the same crap.

I normally don't into debates about such things but you just struck a nerve. I'd like to see proof of the highlighted statement of yours. I've never expected issues like I hear about on here, and thankfully the only bike that gave me anything serious was a Kawasaki. I've heard a few at bike night bitching about defects. I think most just don't want to speak up for fear of looking like a fool for spending that much money on a bike with flaws in it.

Quality?
I bought my first CVO last May, a Tribal Orange/Black RK.
Nothing wrong with the paint, and I've looked hard to find any flaws.
Flywheel pinion runout is .001 in. TIR on mine. Very smooth running at any RPM.
My only complaint is the quick detach windscreen doesn't deflect the wind very well IMO.
Yes, I've played with it and adjusted the flapper 1000 times to no avail. At some point I will
install the standard shield.
It's a keeper unless MoCo builds another CVO RG with the 2009 silver/titanium dust paint scheme.

My buddy is in Daytona and he just sent me this pic of the 2015.5 CVO SG. He said "very, very faint ghost flames also the paint is a gorgeous black and the flames are very hard to notice". Flames are on the front fender, tank and saddle bag lids. Looking at this picture compared to the one on the HD site it seems that you might have to see this bike in person to really appreciate it and not judge it by the dull picture on the site. My buddy knows I love black and said this is the bike for me. I just might have to take back what I said a couple of days ago about too much black.....lol.

I guess its unfair to pass comment without seeing the bike, but the flames look like some cheap stick on's, but with black wheels and a gloss black exhaust maybe the CVO Black knight  :).

That's true.....on the net people are very quick to post the negative (read any motorcycle owners forum including BMW and Goldwing) comments.  Human nature...we are not as quick to post the positive.  There's a thread about this, someplace on this forum and so I will repeat myself.........I love my bike!  Ask me on a day when I just had major failure (even though it'll be covered by the warranty) and my reply will probably not be the same.  :nixweiss:

So true! They say if someone has a positive experience they may tell someone. When someone has a negative experience they tell at least 10 people and obviously with the internet that becomes a hell of a lot more. I have read the many paint posts and I did not know what to think. I looked for a post with a picture and did not see any. If the paint was that bad on sight I know I would not have bought the bike.  I love my bike and the paint looks fantastic!

I agree with that 100% and its not just MC forums but any vehicle forums. One of the things that attracted me to this forum when I started was besides all the negatives that were posted, there was great ideas and mods. I think in general this forum attracts a more mature person (cost of the CVO's) and if you choose to stay away from all the negatives there is still plenty to experience and enjoy.

Dunno. As much as I really like the looks of that bike, those symmetrical flames are annoying. When's the last time you ever saw flames that matched other than on a paint job? I can never remember sitting around a campfire and seeing flames that match go up each side of the fire pit at the same time. They look more like a stencil or decal than "CVO custom paint" to me.

I wonder if that badge would cover the painted version on my hard candy Mercury, and if so, would it be a good look?

I've been studying a bit on the 2015.5 paint compared to the ghost flames within the Ruby/Typhoon color scheme on the '12 SESG.  The flames are almost identical.  Interesting little tidbit I thought.  I likes me dat new color with the silver ghost flames.  Purdy scooter.

Not sure if I would do it, but if you can get them they just stick on the tank. Get it right the first time.

Post by: East Coast on March 16, 2015, 11:31:45 AM
Could you do it?  Sure, will it look proper? I personally don't think it will. It will clash and get lost with all the detail on the tank and probably cover the lettering. That tank emblem is very nice but was used on the 2011 and 2012 CVO SG's, for that reason alone I wouldn't put it on a 2015 CVO SG. Just my 2 cents.

You would be wise to let the dealer do it. The badges are about $180-$200 and are held on with double sided 3M tape. If you screw it up then either you buy the badges again or do some kitchen table therapy and apply new tape to the badges and cut out between the logo and lettering.

On the 2015 CVO, placement will be dictated by the painted on logo. I am not sure if the badges will fully cover the painted on tank logos.

Best of success in your project if you decide to go forward.

I think that new badge is the same as the one on the 2011 & 2012. I don't think I would do it, but if you do get it right the first time. It sticks on with strong 2-sided adhesive.

I was able to see the 15.5 SESG at the local dealer in Carbon Crystal with Phantom Flames...absolutely a beautiful bike! Light metallic in what I would describe as a very deep dark blackish-grey or maybe it's a dark slate. My wife says I cannot distinguish colors worth a darn. The metallic flames are subtle but pop in the sun. I was able to compare to the 2012 SESG, the tank badge is the same and the design of the flames are similar. However, unique enough in design. I was not really fond of the blackout style as I always preferred lot's of chrome, but this bike is awesome!

Unfortunately, this one was sold but I bought my RK from a dealer down the highway and he has one coming in at the end of the month. So I put down a deposit! I'll be joining you all soon.

Rkw, I'm not following your comparison of the 2008 CVO Road King ghost flames with 2015.5 CVO SG ghost flames. The 2012 and 2015.5 CVO Street Glide ghost flames, however, are similar. The flames' designs are very much alike but the paint, placement and fade affect are very much different. You have to see in person to appreciate.

15CVOSG, not everyone I know likes all this year's colors, but I do like all of them to the point that I wish I could own one of each. Since I can't, I was partial to the black/gold and Hard Candy. The Hard Candy is an instant head-turner. The black/gold lures you in then when the light hits the flames they leap out at you!

I was torn between these two bikes but leaning heavy toward the black/gold and was ready to buy until I heard the new carbon crystal was being released. Since the new SESG's are not selling terribly fast in my area, it seemed that I had some time to wait for the new carbon crystal color without a huge risk of being left with no option.

Now having seen it, the carbon crystal seems to have all the same accessory treatments/colors as the black/gold, just the tins are painted different. I would have been very happy with the black/gold, but I'm glad that I waited because for my preference I like the new carbon crystal over the awesome black/gold.

Sorry for the long answer to your question.

That's my opinion too. I have the hard candy and you almost need bionic vision to see the painted/silhouetted tank name.
I'm one of these fellows who, when he spends fifty thousand dollars on a Harley-Davidson, wants the entire world to see that it's a Harley-F#%king-Davidson lol.. none of this stealth / silhouette / close-an-eye-and-stand-on-one-leg-in-the-bright-sunlight artwork.

I bought the new SESG in Carbon Crystal this past Saturday. It looks amazing! In the showroom it appears to be gloss black until you walk up to it. Then you realize it is actually black with silver metallic and then the ghost flames appear. Everyone at the dealership was blown away by it. Although one guy didn't care for the liquid cooled heads, but he loved the look of the bike.

When the salesman rolled it outside into the sun...wow! The metallic jumped out, not to the degree as the Hard Candy Merc, but it really popped! Anyone who gets their hands on one of these beauties wont be disappointed. I heard nothing buy praise for the colors. One guy walked up while it was still in the showroom and said "now that's a nice bike, wow, that's a REALLY NICE BIKE!" That was also my reaction. As for the flames, yup they are the same design as many previous Harley flames. There are several different versions of silver or grey that fade in and out. And the tank badge is similar to other year's, but so what it is very cool!

I bought this bike sight unseen on the advice of the HD sales manager who I've known for years. My RK was dripping with chrome because that's what I like and the salesman knew this, but he also knew the new SESG was so Bad A$$ that I would love it and I do! No regrets.

Saw one yesterday and it had a lot of swirls in the paint on the fairing and saddlebags. So check that out before you buy. Didn't like all the blacked out parts for me. IMO, Just another way to cut cost if you ask me, and looks cheaper than chrome. Not flashy enough for a $40,000 bike. You pay that much for a "custom" bike I want it to look "custom". Fancy paint, a lot of chrome and big bad motor is my idea of a custom, but this is just my option. I'm sure a lot of people will like the look, just not for me. I was also told that due to all the restrictions in the chroming process because of all the chemicals, we will see more blacken parts than chrome in the future due to the cost.

Take a close look at the 2010 FLHXSE Spiced Rum. Except for the handlebars/controls, cylinder heads, trans side cover, plastic oil cooler cover and air cleaner the '15 carbon crystal SESG has about the same amount of chrome. Maybe more when you compare the '15's Aggressor chrome wheels to the 10's black wheels. The silver crank case helps bring out the chrome on the '10 and the black crank case gives enhances the blackout look to the '15, IMO. But I get it, just like my dad there are a lot of folks who insist on only chrome, but this blackout SESG is BAD A$$! IMO

I'm sure that pictures don't do the new Carbon Crystal paint any justice because it just looks like another black Harley even though I know that it's probably a very beautiful machine I'll keep what I have!! Congratulations to all of you that have your new 15's, be safe & enjoy making them yours.

THAT IS ONE OF THE PETTIEST CVOS THEY CAME OUT WITH... WE HAVE THAT ONE TOO.

Nice pics of the yellow SG! So much for the yellow paint being discontinued or has it been sitting around? The more I see it the more I'm liking it.

I guess it's been sitting around or has taken a while to get to the UK. The colour is no longer showing on the H-D website. It did look good under electric light as you could see the flecks in the paint. Paint quality looked ok to me as well.

It is a new color.  Awesome looking.  I just bought one.  Bike is at the dealers having pipes and a few other things added but once everything is complete I will have some pictures.

I bought a black crystal last weekend. Once outside the colors come to life! There is a reason the paint has the word crystal in it, it sparkles in the sun and that is where you'll ride it...outside.

Conduct a search on cycle trader, Harley Davidson, StreetGlide,  Once the "Trim"  box drops select CVO.  A few dealers have multiple pics of the new color.

All this year's CVO's were that way for me. At first I thought they looked okay, but after seeing them on the showroom floor several times I thought each was really awesome. The SESG's were not selling fast in SoCal so I had the opportunity to ponder my decision for a couple months. I also had the dealers roll them outside to see them under the sun rather than under the lights. Obviously I thought the carbon crystal was best for me since that is the one I bought, but I would also love any of the other four color schemes. With the carbon crystal I didn't have much time to think about buying it because the dealers were getting deposits on it before it arrived. I left a deposit on mine with the option to back out and buy the Hard Candy, and as much as I liked it, the black crystal instantly won out for me.

Yeah, you caught me. I spend my day pretending I bought a CVO Street Glide in order to gain acceptance on message boards. I also photo shopped my and my wife's picture in this photo from Pomona Valley HD. Dang, I'll be more careful next time I try to pull a scam on a message board. Gunslinger is not doing the paint on these so maybe they will be shipped out faster with no issues

gunslinger must be a terrible paint shop or unable to handle taking on all the cvo work. i bought my 2015 SG on feb 28 and have yet to ride it since it was delivered 3 wks ago compliments of gunslinger sucking and corporate acting like it can be buffed out.

Don't worry.... The paint on my bike is spectacular as well as the maybe 10 other '15 CVO's I have seen. Of course being in Mass I have had plenty of time to look... but hopefully the weather will break any day now. I am sure as with any other companies there will always be a few issues.

15CVOSG, the bike is outstanding the way it sits! It's not quite a blackout because it already has a lot of chrome. The engine colors are identical to the Starfire Black/Gold Dust Flames and the Scorching Yellow models from this year. I bought Carbon Crystal a few weeks ago and think it's amazing. I get compliments on it from everyone who sees it. This look is contemporary and will hold the bike's value as the younger folks (and this old man) find this look very appealing. It took a while for the blackout to grow on me; now I think it's really awesome. Don't get me wrong but everyone has chrome, so if you really want to be different with a CVO, this look is the ticket! JMHO...

Also, like the other colors this year...pictures don't do it justice, but in the daylight the paint pops! In pictures it simply looks like another black Street Glide, so several comments in this forum have been less than positive on it. Those folks aren't paying for it or get the pleasure of riding it...you are. Do what is right for you.

Good googally goobs....that is one purdy scooter.  I think that baby looks just fine the way it's sitting.  However, while changing the black chrome to "proper" chrome would bling her out a bit more, either way the black with the smoke flames is a beautiful bike.

+1 on the engine guards and upper fork covers.

If the black cvo's would have had more chrome from the factory, I might have went that direction.

Saw one this morning at Cheltenham Harley Davidson.

Very nice, although not nice enough to tempt me away from the Hard Candy Mercury

Hi,

I too would like to add the CB module w/ J&M flex antenna to my bike. I've been looking at the J&M for over a week now and can't seem to pull the trigger. Can you rate (1-10) the J&M flex antenna. I guess I'm asking are you pleased with the purchase?

Thanks,

actually have not used it yet ... but, was told it should work very well in group situations up to several blocks distance... but, don't expect several mile distance communications with it compared to fixed mast antenna's...

Very nice bike! I noticed your engine appears to be granite not black. I have the same Carbon Crystal but with a black engine and you'll notice Shes110 post of her similar bike above also has the black engine. I guess MoCo ran out of parts or changed their scheme 1/2 way through this build. Both look outstanding!

You're probably right, my wife tells me I can't coordinate colors so this would be consistent.
