Title: Oil flow direction

I've been trying to find what direction the oil flows from the filter to the cooler and back.
07 Ultra  there's a upper and lower hose connected on the same side of the cooler one above the other .
Q. Is the top the in flow or the bottom hose?

Thanks for any input that will put me on the correct flow path ;D

For reference upper or lower line connector is return?

Now you've made me curious Pete.  What chore are you up to where this matters?  There's nothing directional (baffling or otherwise) about the tank itself.  So what are you rigging up where input or output matters?

Wish I could remember as I've bumped starter enough to push oil out with the lines off on one before.  But I don't remember.  Sorry.

On the filter the feed is on the outside and the return is down the middle.  You could take your adapter apart and see which line coincides with which part of filter connection.

On most radiators and coolers you want the hot fluid going in the top since heat rises and cold falls. Some coolers it may not be possible with the design of the internal tubes or mounting orientation.  As far as the adapter in the picture you can take it apart and look at the passages. Oil from the engine goes in the outside holes of the oil filter. Trace it from the backside of the adapter from there.

The top line is the cooler feed and the lower is the cooler return as you have the adapter in your picture.

 :D  I installed an inline hose temp sensor and put it in the upper hose then a mate asked if it's in the feed side not the return. I was pretty sure it was but then couldn't find anything defendant what was the feed and return.

The feed/return lines maybe different on the cooler adapter in the second picture. That looks like an Harley adapter.

Hot damn, I'd have guessed right  :huepfenlol2: .

On mine the temp sensor got stuck in the oil pan.

Longlast I like this idea! May have to try that myself. I have wanted one to replace that stupid ambient air gauge but they don't make one for the CVO. Can you include a pic of your gauge and placement?

Oil and water temp mounted on a 2015 Rushmore twin cam. Oil temp sensor is in the pan.

If the pan mount wouldn't work could also consider a fitting to replace the nipple that's in the filter block now.  There are fittings with the NPT on one side as is now, nipple on the other as is now, and another threaded pipe hole outside to accept a mini-sensor for the oil temp.  Splitting the line like Pete did is probably easier to service later though.

Glow Shift makes nice inline temp sensor mounts for rubber lines. Brass tee and fittings for a hard mount into the adapter probably available at parts and hardware stores.
