103" MOTOR HELP!!!
« on: April 06, 2005, 11:20:13 AM »

I have recently purchased an 05' SE Electraglide and am not impressed with the power with the stock setup. I am looking for some advise as what modifications to do to get the most bang for my buck. So far, my local harley dealer is advising changing the pistons to increase the compression, a race tuner, breather, and exhaust. Not sure if these are the right things to change and if so, what pistons and what exhaust. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 00 Ultra Classic with the 95" kit, SE heads, S & S gear drive with 570 cams, vance & hines pro pipe, SE breather, and power commander that will run cirlces around this stock 103".

Thanks in advance

Opee welcome to the site.  Engine mods can go a long way and it's all discreationary.  Many of us, probably most, have only done the high flow air cleaner, exhaust and Race Tuner or Power Commander........and those changes alone will make a significant difference.

When you bump the compression you have to be careful in the summer time, when it gets hot (not sure how hot it gets there and I'm betting not as hot as Calif.).

To give you an idea, look at the dyno thread in the Electra Glide forum.  My 04 SEEG with high flow air cleaner, Vance & Hines 2 into 1 and Race Tuner dynoed at 100.0 Hp and 104.6 lb. ft. of torque.  If you go with the Freedom set up that many of the guys have (it uses a Power Commander rather than a Race Tuner and an altered set of true duals) then the numbers will be a little higher.

Several of these guys have switched to gear driven cams with various results (again, see the dyno thread).

Good luck with your efforts.  Keep us posted as to which way you go and what the results are.

Opee

Rather than rehash thousands of suggestions and advice it would be easier to do as JCZ said and review the dyno and other threads.

I don't think there is anyone here that has said I'm God and this is what the readers need to do.
All the post are reflections of the routes many different people have chosen to get where they want to be. And some are not there yet.

Take the time to read the dyno, cams, and freedom pipes threads. It will not take more than an hour of your time.

Then make up your mind from there!

Glad your here Opee! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Yeah, 'er 'uh, opee!
Welcome to the site, man! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  JCZ and hd2003 have really covered it.  You have access to a wealth of performance information on this site, not to mention being in the company of some ol' Boys that are pretty savy about the "Lifestyle."   Later--HUBBARD

"Tater"

Go back to work!
Stop dreaming about an Ultra outrunning a CVO.

Or do I need to have Otis call you and wake you up from your dream?
