Has anyone heard if MOCO is going to do anything about this powdercoat?

They just can't leave it like that or try to give you paint....

I haven't shown this to the dealer yet.  I've told him about the rear wheel and the chrome pitting, but not the paint.

As for Unbalanced, it's only dirt or grunge on the chrome.  I should have cleaned the area before taking the picture, but it was sunny and I just shot the picture and ran with it.

I was thinking that a primary cover would in deed take care of my problem if they replace it.  I might think about a chrome inner primary, but that might be TOO much chrome, if there is such a thing as too much chrome.

So far, neither I, nor anyone else has reported this problem with the gray powder coat used on the '07 CVOs. It must be the granite paint. I can't imagine how much this is going to cost the MoCo. As a customer oriented business, I'm sure they will do their us right.

Just to make sure that I'm not misleading anyone on the flakes on my primary case, I have said that it's the powdercoating and not paint that is flaking off.  The powdercoat as I'm sure everyone knows is a process where powder plastic gets sprayed onto the metal surface and then baked at over 400 degrees to flow it out to look like paint, but way more durable and solvent proof.  The only way to flake off the baked on powdercoating is to have contamination under the powder when baking.

I have not had issues with the paint other than one minor issue on the tank.  I think I've heard others talk about this type of flaw before.  There is a ghost foggy spot about the size of a golf ball on the top of the left tank side just below the fuel gauge.  This is "ONLY" visable when the sun or indoor lights hit it just right to show this slightly white'ish blotch up and then you still see the color very clearly below.  I've tried rubbing compound but it's under the clear coat.

As far as the powdercoating goes, I'll be taking my bike in soon for the campaigns and the 5000 mile service and I'll see what they can do for me on the powdercoating on the primary cover flaking off.

I had the same problem on my '08.  That along with a myriad of other problems including the head gasket leak prompted them to replace the motor and cases.  All done for about a month now and it's running great.  A little over 1200 mile on new motor.  Now we just need to resolve the GPS problem.

I couldn't go through all 117 pages, but on the first two I didn't notice any mention of powdercoat coming off the engine.

My 08 SEUC is loosing powder coating off the engine case. What is the Moco's stance on powder coating on engine cases??? My local dealer is replacing my engine oil filter housing because the powder coating has come off. How far can we go????

One part is precedent.  If it happens on the cases or other top end parts the foundation is already laid for later replacement.

I have the chrome inner on my Springer and I think it looks great...
I also put the cylinder base cover on it and it fits together well..,..

No I don't think that you can have too much chrome on CVOs...

is this harley chrome or kuryakn?

well the jury is back and the MoCo want to try to spray paint my engine :nixweiss:
i'll give them a shot since it looks like regular paint to me anyways (not powder), but if it looks like crap it's going back and they're gonna do it correctly.  i think i'm also going to go with the chrome because i won't feel as bad if i don't know it's coming off :)

Thats Harley Chome...
Even though after I put this on I looked at kuryakn cylinder base cover and I think I like that better its not as smooth, and breaks up the a little better.....
It is allot of chrome, but I'm going to add more....
I don't like the color of the powder, I liked the black better I had on my FatBoy...

I am almost positive that the case is powder coated.... 99.9% sure, I don't think paint any paint will hold up under temp conditions as well as powder......

paint may work, but I would just put the inner primary cover on it, I will catch your eye....

If it were me (I have serious OCD) I would try to work a deal that they just replace it (including labor) with a chrome inner primary at no cost to you. :nixweiss:

If the paint problem was strictly on the inner primary, that's exactly what I would do.  Even if you had to buy the inner and they installed for free, it wouldn't be a bad deal IMO..
It's your bike(s), you have to do what is right for each of you.  Good luck.
