Head pn question
« on: August 08, 2014, 01:08:15 PM »

Are part numbers 16960-03a and 16966-03a the correct head castings for my 2006 SEUC? Looking for a set that I can send to be ported and decked but want to be sure I get the correct ones. Thanks!

#'s look right. Just verify black color.

Weren't the '06's (103ci) motors satin like the '04's (103ci)?

according to the 06 parts manual, your heads are: 17149-06 and 17151-06.

http://www.granitestateharleystore.com/OEMpartfinder.htm#/Harley-Davidson%c2%ae/FLHTCUSE_PR_CUSTOM_VEHICLE_OPS_SCREAMIN%60_EAGLE_ULTRA_CLASSIC_ELECTRA_GLIDE_(2006)/CYLINDERS%2c_HEADS%2c_%26_VALVES/99428-06%5cPR/99428-06%5cPAGE%7c%7e6%5cPR

and i would definitely verify the correct coloring as well.  if you go to the link above, and click on the triangular exclamation point sign next to the head pn's, it gives you a description with "(silver)" at the end.

Those are the part numbers for the heads in the conversion kit Harley sold for the 2003 Touring models to upgrade them to CVO103's.  I'm not sure what if any differences there might be between those heads and the ones in your 2006 model.  The part numbers for your model year are as posted above by ekim60.  Since those part numbers also include the valve seats and guides, the different numbers might just reflect a difference in the guides or seats and not a difference in the actual head castings.  Both sets of numbers are for Screamin Eagle 103 heads in silver.  If one of the head specialists on the site sees this thread perhaps they can enlighten us.  I'm thinking they will work since you plan to send them out for mods anyway and will most likely be having new seats and guides installed along with any porting work.  :nixweiss:

edit:  I just remembered that for 2006 Harley changed the intake ports on all the heads, and I think that included the CVO heads, when they changed to the one piece throttle bodies.  Once again, one of the experts should be able to tell you if that will be an issue or not when using the earlier model manifold and TB.

It's my understanding that the suffix of both these castings being-03 would indicate that they were built before 2006 therefore I doubted the intake change that the 88" bikes saw would apply. Right or wrong?

The 03A suffix indicates the design was released for 2003 and there had been one revision (A) since the initial release.  In this case the part number should have changed again when they changed the intake and exhaust ports for 2006.  The question now becomes "is the older head casting still compatible with the 2006 and later engines".  My memory being what it is, I can't say for certain what we all determined back when the change actually took place.  I'd suggest asking Don at Dewey's Heads or one of the other head specialists on the site.

In simple terms it will bolt on however it may need a change of intake flanges,... Nothing more

Thanks Steve.  That's what I thought I remembered from way back when, but didn't want to state as fact.

So as it turns out, the "Casting" numbers on these heads are 16965-03a and 16971-03a. I sure hope they work, because I own them now...
