Title: 1988 1340 evo squeaking noise, won't idle, cherry red exhaust pipe

changed top end gaskets and new rings,    now I have a squeaking noise from both cylinders or above, won't idle at all , cherry red exhaust pipe.

any suggestions?

88 Classic, Did you use the same pistons? Are the rings and gaskets the same size as before? Could you have done anything to stop oil from getting up to the rockerarms? Is there any chance you bent one of the oil rings upon installation. Friction or no oil makes heat. Those are some things that come to mind. When you get if figured out let me know. CAHDBIKER

could be a number of things......did you gap the rings or at least check them before throwing the bike together? sounds like its tight, could be lean? coulda rolled or bent a ring? as far as exhaust pipe being cherry, sounds like the bike is super lean, hard to diagnose over the net.

Crossing fingers and hoping for a potentially easy solution a whistle or similar sounding noise and a hot exhaust could be caused by a heluva big vacuum leak.  Check everything around the intake.  It's at least worth a look.

Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good.
Go over what you did, methodically, and do not start the bike anymore, until you have found the root of the issue.
