Had a close friend put a 100 inch Ultima in his 97 RK. He sold the bike shortly after, but as far as I know it is still running strong. He was pleased with the price and performance  127" sounds a bit rad as far as long distance riding, but based on what my friend's 100" did, I would imagine the 127 to be a blaster  ;)

Like we talked about with the S&S:  make sure the rear cylinder will clear the frame.  And make sure of all the other compatibility issues as well.  Does it bolt right in to the HD mountiing points?  How is your transmission?  Will it take what a 127 puts out?  Might get into beefy clutch requirements as well.  Ultimately, like the hot rodders of old would say:  "Speed costs money.  How fast do you want to go?"

Yes. One of the guys I ride with put a 127" in his fatboy. I found the motor on one of the sites I hang out on for him. I give him credit for breaking it in the correct way. So far he is happy with it. The down side he said is that his nice new Street Glide feels like it couldn't pull a sick whore out of bed. I'm guessing he has around 2500 miles on it since putting it in in February. I'll post if anything changes in the way of satisfaction.

The issue with Ultima engines is that they where using ross pistons and they had issue's with either piston growth there lack of in the bottom of the bore, or cylinder expanding to fast. They addressed it by using a Mahl piston. The 127 is the largest that will fit in a stock frame,( some times they will not due to frame varance) but even at that you must pull the engine to service the rocker boxes.  The 127 has a better compression ratio than the 120, the heads have HUGE chambers 99-103 and there is almost nothing to mill off the surface. best thing if you want one is to buy it as a kit toss the pistons use some dome pistons, and run from there or swap out the cams. But the engine is made of mostly overseas parts, The heads, cylinders, crank, cases, rocker boxes, are all import items. For the money and having run them I would buy a REV tech ( did I say that out loud??) but the new GenIII CC engines are backed with one heck of a warranty and they will take care of it without any issue. Not so with the Ultima. We waited 5 weeks for new pistons and cylinders.

WE take a completely different approach will build them from only top end parts Thus you get one MEAN engine a 155 evo at 11.2 compression will make 180hp and 190tq with a D carb now let me step on the compression use a oval port head and we run over 200/200 on pump fuel and it will run like a swiss watch

On the S&S 124. First  take it for a ride come back and pull the bottom case plug. Drain oil into a cc/ oz cup. If you have more than 4 oz's oil you need to pull the reed valve in the cam chest. We have never had good luck with the reed system they use. In fact we always see more power withit removed. But if you are not sumping oil in the crank case at this point leave it. Second, pay close attention to the sound of the engine. We see are fair share of piston noise with them as well. Not all of them but really there sould be none. Those are the two biggest isssue's on the 124. S&S engines.

Steve, do you have any experience with the S&S 113" Evo? Any issues to look for with that engne? Thanks, Hoist! 8)

Not really they seem to be a decent engine as far as crate engines go.  The crank could be set up a bit tighter , but really overall they are not bad.

Steve,
I've got a stock 97 evo (small torque cam & minor carb work), that I'm considering "upgrading".  What kind of cost are we looking at for a 155?  What other upgrades do I need to consider- re: clutch, tranny, etc?  I'd like to keep things as stock looking as I can and definitely want the ability to go for a couple hundred miles when I want to.  Thoughts??

Thanks!!!
