Now you wont be able to see the oil marks on the floor. Great idea.

Pete - they just did something similar that I saw on Hometime.

The installers, when asked, said it would be good for 5-7 years under typical garage use.

What about the service you used?

It is warrantied to be free of any defects for 10 yrs, they will come and make any repairs. Salesman advised me he's had it for 15 and seen no signs of lifting or cracking, and that its due to the fact that its a polymer rather than epoxy. So while it does dry relatively hard, it remains flexible so it won't chip when tools fall or jacks roll over it, and it will conform to varying temps rather than crack like a hard epoxy. He told me they do FD's and automotive shops with heavy traffic and the only time they've had to do patchwork was when people had done standstill burnouts in shops.

The key to this coating application is the preparation. All cracks need to be routed out and filled as well as the floor should be shotbasted or diamond ground, (as opposed to acid etech) Multible coats are better, and a top coat which is chemical resistant should be used. Keep in mind that if you use a solid color there is a chance that certain tire componds will leave a permanent stain which will not come out. A nice looking floor is one with quartz aggregate or a flake broadcast. The reason it cost so much is the diamond grinding tools and the shotblaster. There could be $20,000.00 worth of equipment on site.

On the Hometime show they steel shot the floor and the covering was an epoxy based.

Never thought I needed a floor coating until seeing this thread.  I empty my garage each spring to get rid of the salt and dirt with a power washer and add the rug, table and motorcycles back in.  Plain floor cleans up in a wink with a broom or leaf blower throughout the summer.  That looks real cool.  I'm afraid the rough surface would be harder to clean up.

I'm into that aged natural patina of oil and grease droppings mixed in with the tire markings, boot tracks, and other accidental spills that occur in any garage/shop.  Not sure I want to start spiffing up the garage too much....the wifey would want to get involved then........ :nervous:  :huepfenjump3:    har! :drink:  spyder

You get what you pay for... notice under the tires at the bottom of the pic. Got it at Home D about 150$ did EVERYTHING by the book and 3mo. later it started to peel. dont know if it was product or the floor but im sure the commercial product would have worked better.

Did you acid etch the floor and rinse several times prior to coating?  One application I did and one I didn't ..... had the same problem.
