Red calipers
« on: January 26, 2018, 12:45:37 AM »

I have always been a huge fan of the colored calipers on performance cars and motorcycles but when I saw that Harley had come out with the red calipers I wasn't sure how it would look on my bike though I was definitely thinking about it. For Xmas a couple of guys I work with got together and got me a gift cert for the local dealer which though wouldn't cover the whole cost, would be a nice start. I have the Maple Roadglide and the red Streetglide so the obvious choice for which bike to do it on was the Streetglide since it would match nicely. A few weekends ago while riding I stopped at a local spot where there were a few bikes and I saw a tan Harley with the red calipers and I thought it looked amazing so I decided to go with my Maple Roadglide. Just got it done today and I think it looks awesome but when I sent a pic to my kid he hated it and thought it looked terrible on the Maple bike.
What do you guys think?

Hi Alan,

I agree with Haird.  Personally I'm not a big fan of the red, but that's me and it really doesn't matter because you are and it is your ride.

I must say that I love your custom seat though, and have always been a huge fan of the Maple RG which I affectionately named "The Shepherd" because it reminds me so much of the Shepherd boats from the 50's that my Dad had.

Enjoy!

Agreed.   :2vrolijk_21:  Not for me, but that's why they make so many things in so many styles & colors.

Just a thought for some future splashes of color.  These calipers are easy to disassemble and reassemble.  Powder coating is relatively inexpensive (less than what Harley charges for a pair of colored calipers).  Do this and you can choose from almost any color you want from available power coatings.

Right now the only that matters is that you like it though.  Well done  :2vrolijk_21: .

On a Porsche red calipers mean that it really breaks hard, on our bike it is an eye catcher for you to remember that you must beware of this piece of hardware that will hardly slow you down 😁

I was not sure what I thought yesterday.  Looked at it a couple times.  Same with today, looked a few times.  I decided I do like it on the Maple.  I also think it will look much better on the Apple than your atomic red SG.  Reason is, the Reds would clash in my opinion.

Looks good.  Love your seat.

If you like it, that's all you need to know.  We all have different likes and dislikes, no one person gets to dictate.  Otherwise, we would all be riding solid black Harley's with the exact same equipment on them.

If you really want an honest opinion, I'm not a fan of red calipers.  It's not that I dislike the color red (I have a red bike and a red CUV), but I find that red calipers on any vehicle just distract from the rest of the vehicle.  If you have a killer paint job and wheels, I'd think you would want those to be the focal point.  I've noticed those bright red calipers drawing my attention away from the rest of the vehicle when I encounter them on things like a Lambo, Porsche, Ferrari, etc..  They are even more obvious on a bike, since they are sitting outside the wheel and not partially hidden by the wheel.

Thanks all, I have to say I really love them. The pics I posted was from the dealer because I was out of town so I asked him to send to me and I hadn't actually seen them in person until last night. In person I think they look even better. My kid is telling me that after having the bike for 6 years I am bored and was just looking to change something. Maybe he's right but he is a 27 yr old smart a-- (my fault, I raised him that way..) and the fact he doesn't like them makes me smile when I look at them!

Looks ok but to make it really work I think you need some more small items in red to make it work maybe the air filter or rocker boxes. Something to tie them together.
Something to think about.
