2008 SE Springer and Dyno Drag Results
« on: August 24, 2008, 07:56:53 AM »

Out for a ride and I found a local dealer running a dyno drag event.  I was like a puppy the first day of hunting season.  Didn't have a clue what I was doing but did it.  In my best race, I ran the 1/4 mile in 11.425 seconds, a speed of 118.4, a reaction time of .919 and horspower of 99.7.  Guy beside me beat me 4 of 4.  Knew I was in trouble when he announced to me, "I've only got 86 horsepower in this."  Yeh, right, especially when he was hitting some magic push buttons on top of each cylinder.  His dyno numbers showed 125HP.   It was an absolute kick.  Live and learn.  Did my best to represent our colors.  My 2008 is stock.  I'm running a set of Bub 7 2 into 2's.  Makes me think about a performance upgrade over the winter.

Sounds like fun.If you used a typical tree start, the biggest mistake a rookie makes is going on green instead of the last yellow.Go on yellow and you will cut your reaction time in half.My apologies if you already knew this. 8)

You could see the inexperience in my reaction times alhough I fouled for being early once. It was a blast. Like all things, experience helps. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have a 07 s.e.springer with some engine mods. 10.50 comp pistons, 585 s&s gear roller cams, v&h propipe, 10mm s.e. sparkplug wires, dialed in with a s.e. efi racetuner. I have not dyno raced my machine, however the h.p. at the engine is 120, and at the rear wheel is 95. Also I never broke this engine in according to the factory. Out the door and well over 100 within 20 miles. I don't baby it and it does not burn oil. Of course this might be why I can't keep a rear tire on it for long.
