Has anyone tried the new Aquatic HD radio?
« on: July 17, 2015, 02:00:55 AM »

inreally like how this looks installed.  Has lots of great features and its waterproof.    Just wanted to if anyone is using this yet.  Pete at Soundz is offering these as well.  Has a great looking display and its Bluetooth.    Let us hear from someone,,,    Stuart.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Stu.  Looks like a great option for getting out of the HK head unit.  I found this....very good video of the Aquatic in action.

It does look like a great option. Handlebar controls still work? Need to change speakers, etc?

The video comparison with the garden hose was a little (ok, a lot) lame.  What was the original radio supposed to do after all?  However.....

The new radio's website info sounds promising, at least as to mounting and hook up.  All plug and play using the stock connector on all bikes from the latter 90s to 2013.

Only uses the stock single primary harness connector.  No connector for overlay harnesses so it's not a direct replacement for the CVO bikes nor anyone else who has added anything on the overlay side.  But for most bikes it'll hopefully be a decent option.  Big question for me won't be answered until it's been in use some.  Will it survive the bouncing, vibration and generally harder environment that is living in a bike fairing as compared to being in the dash of the family sedan.

You can buy a wiring harness to interface with the handlebar controls so they operate as before. My installer used a Metra Auto Products harness, think it was around $80. Metra also has hidden antenna's, kits to mount aftermarket radios, etc. for retrofits.

Agreed.  But have had a couple of "marine grade" radios fail after a couple years in a bike.  They were Sony's.  Nothing special.  But they didn't live a long time.

According to their website there is a Harley specific version of the radio that would be directly plug and play.  No need for an intermediate harness to tie it all together.

I agree on the lame part for the Sony or original but it does show it works under a downpour.  I agree it would be good to see long term operation results considering the vibration/extreme conditions that are present in the HD's.  Still, good option and the HD unit is plug and play with no harness required.

That's great it's brand specific Twolanerider and will simplify an install. I didn't check the radio specifications as I recently changed my receiver to a marine unit and never plan to do again - hopefully...
