Putting Fog Lights on 2015 RGU
« on: October 19, 2015, 02:51:33 PM »

Not sure if this should go here or in the electrical gadget group.  Please move if needed.

Anyway looking to put fog lights on my 2015 RGU and still digging up electrical info.  I picked up the Aux switch kit part 71400105 which has the Aux power buttons for console and a wiring harness I understand goes under the left side cover.  If I go with the HD Daymaker Reflectors, they come with some wire leads.  What do I need to connect from the Aux power harness to the wire leads.  Just picked up a service manual but dont yet know how much electrical info it contains.  The parts counter thought I would need wiring part 69201109.  If mounting lights on lower fairings does this kit run from the Aux power to under tank to lower fairings? Anyone done this and do plugs match or am I into splicing wires or installing new electrical connectors?

You will still need a wiring harness. The harness will run power from the fuse block to the lights and also run to the switches. Power does not flow like the old bikes, from battery, to fuse block, through switch, to light. The switches will control the fuse block and allow power straight to lights. I did not use the harness completely as the CVO Limited has aux lights stock. I wanted the fog lights independent, so I sliced into harness and also routed wiring inside lowers and out through the radiator covers. My wiring is also got quick disconnects so the lights can be removed with the lowers if needed without cutting the wires.
With a road glide I would think the switch is independent to begin with. Your concern is the harness running down the frame rails then out the crashbar to lights.  I wanted it all hidden so went extra step.

I've got a thread on here from when I did mine. I'll have to dig it up from home later as its a little too hard to link it from my phone.

Basically, I added the switches up front and the harness under the seat from the aux plug. Then I just tied the leads to the lights into that harness.

Did you end up using a hd wiring from the harness to the lights or make your own? Your linked post kind of stopped after deciding catalog diagram was wrong. Catalog calls for the wiring part I noted above to connect the lights but the parts counter lighting specialist did not seem very confident in everything fitting up. Dealer has a 2015 ultra limited with these lights installed. Maybe I can find out who installed them and what wiring was used.

I forgot to update that post. Those are the parts I used. I just ran the wiring from the lights to the leads off the harness. I have my driving lights on one switch and my LED accent lighting on the other switch.

Why not buy the new RG brackets that mount off the turn signals and mount the Fog lights there. I saw a couple sets at Biketoberfest and they look O.K. All the wiring you are asking about can be bought at the parts counter if that's the way you want to go, GRC (Jerry) can probably spec it out for you if parts guy can't help, but all the stuff is available from HD for what you want.

Had a discussion a few weeks back that lights are more noticeable to oncoming traffic if lower on the bike and I tend to agree. Wiring would be easier up on signals.

I have had them on forks (RK) & crash bars (RG) and I think the whole premise that they are more visible if lower is crap, MIGHT have made a difference with older Halogen but New LED lighting is so bright that from a couple hundred feet away it is all light, no definition exists between the two until you get pretty close, and by that time... they have noticed you, surely. I just disagree with the different heights making a difference, don't believe me? Meet a 4X4 with a new 80 LED bar on the roof and 2200 Lumen headlamps and a couple 1600 Lumen fogs mounted low. ALL you see is light & light is what you want. IMHO.

Hey, Ron...I think I remember Mike (OBB) and me having a conversation about accessory wiring (correct me if it wasn't you, Mike).  I think the topic was that the '15 shop manual incorrectly called out which plug to use under the left side cover.  If you're going that way with your accessory switches, be watchful for that.  I ended up using an HD accessory harness that had no on/off switches but it was for a radar detector.  Cost me less than $30 delivered.  You're prolly gonna want a switch for lights though.  Just thought I'd mention that about the shop manual.

What a timely thread, I was at the dealer and was looking at harness 71400105 today... what thinking some lower driving lights and some accent lights but I want the accent lights to work even when the bike is off and not through the accessory circuit. Are your accents wired to where they work anytime? I ended up just ordering a switch for the right side and figured I'd add a fuse and snake my own wiring but I sure like the idea of a harness better.

I went back and forth about where to mount Daymaker fog lights on my 16 RGU. In the end I decided to mount them with the turn signals. Pretty easy installation although the P&A catalog is a little vague and misleading. For the fairing mount you need the lights, the fairing mount kit, and the aux light switch (part # 69200172.) No other wiring harnes is required.

No sir, they're only powered when at least the accy switch is on. I leave them on all the time and would be one of those people that would forget to turn them off when I get to work. Wouldn't be bad if I worked nights and would be able to see the lights were still on when I shut the bike off. lol

Yours is the post I was searching for!
Just to be sure, please, you purchased the lights, mount and the light switch (part # 69200172).
The wiring is already in place?
Thanks!

Yep, the wiring and plug for the switch is already in place.

Hey guys, I just purchased the aux switch kit #71400105. Can anyone tell me what will happen if I plug in the 6 pin connector that is under (connected to the existing blank switch block) and connect it to the new aux switch block without using the supplied harness? I am assuming that the harness is for installing additional accessories.

I have a 2015 FLTRUSE

the 2015 is a can-bus system. those wires are set to send a signal to the passing lamps when connected at the turn signal. Its a 2 wire system and it knows when the extra draw is needed. I do not know if you can interrupt that power to go some place else, that for smarter people than me.

The other switches, and the harness that plugs in under the left cover, are only used for additional items, like the colored LED aux lighting or heated accessories.  The fog lights, when bought per the instructions, work as advertised...but I did have to buy the fog light switch ($14 at the dealer) that was not on the 71400105 harness.

Bumping this to the top.  I'm looking to install fog lights 68000090 on my 2015 FLTRUSE

So many options for these aux switches!

If I'm reading this correctly... all I need is the fogs, mounting bracket 68000183 , and switch module 69200172?  That module replaces the left side module with the dummy switches?   Where do the fogs get wired to and will I need to flash the bcm?

In the switch kit, the harness they give you plugs in under the side cover from there you wire the lights to the switch.
