Bob,
The ZUMO do not allow for realtime weather radar. Nor does the Tom Tom, from what I have read, other than what you can already see on your cell phone. The only superimposed Radar is available on the Garmin 478 with an additional monthly fee.

Mi amigo AJ...nice hearing from you.....I am a little bit ignorant about technology....could you please explain to me this? Thanks bro:

Real-time weather reports*: need the waterproofs? Get a real-time overview of the weather before setting off, including 5-day forecasts for all the places you're going to be.

* Real-time services require a compatible Bluetooth® phone and subscription with full internet access via your mobile phone ('GPRS' subscription). All other services can be downloaded via your computer using TomTom HOME and are also accessible on the road via your mobile phone (same requirements as stated above).

Had not considered pairing for your reason - asap.  She knows I don't check the cell as much when riding, so not sure I want her to know that's an option.   :huepfenlol2:
Knowing how much you like cold refreshments I could be convinced to not mention this to her.... :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

Twolane did mention something about working for beer maybe he should have included "keep quiet" for beer too. ;) :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

You're right AJ, I was thinking of the XM Traffic stuff which wouldn't be on the TomTom either.

I'm still in shock that I had a Zumo link you didn't post above so bear with me......   :o

I owe you that many beers & more, Bro!   :2vrolijk_21:   :drink:

She doesn't read here even though I told her about it & all (even linked) so as long as you & 4,000 other members keep quiet, my secret is safe.   ;D

Como esta mi amigo?

What this is saying is that you will only see on the GPS what you can already see on your cell phone. If your cell phone has a LCD display in which you can view text you will be able to read (in words) what the weather is. It depends on how much information you want. I wanted to actually "see" the weather maps on the GPS screen. For this you need to have an external XM weather antenna to receive that data. If all you want to do is "hear" the weather forcast you could just use the NOAA weather radio staions. If you want to read the weather forcast you can link it to your cell phone. If you want to "see" the weather on the screen you'll need the XM weather beacon attached to a unit.
maybe d00d can post a picture of the 478 with the weather screen to explain what I'm talking about.

If you read the TomTom website it states:

"TomTom Weather gives you current weather or a detailed 5-day forecast (TomTom application version 6.0 or higher), leaving you plenty of time to change your plans if necessary. It's easy to access, gives extensive, detailed information and comes from extremely reliable sources."

What it does not say is how that information is being delivered to you. Being that it talks about the Bluetooth feature I am cofident that it is being delivered through the BT and not layed out on screen.

"Intuitive retrieval: just select the location & request the weather
Complete coverage of all locations in Europe, Australia and North America
Premium and detailed weather information, refreshed every hour

Data delivered directly to your device
Single-screen view of current weather, or 5-day forecast (TomTom application version 6.0 or higher)
Clearly spoken weather reports (GO 920/720/520/910)"

What this does not say is that the weather information is "mapped" or "overlayed" onto the chart that you are looking at.

The TomTom Rider is a big seller here in Europe. I have no experience of the V2 model, but I CAN tell you that the V1 model had a major, major problem. All - each and every one - of those I know about failed, because the vibration wore the plastic, (very quickly - a cupla thousand miles!) and stopped them from being powered on the bike.  Allegedly this is fixed on the V2, but as I say, I don't know.

What I can say is, if I were buying a GPS for my bike, it would be a Zumo.

Hi Jim,

I read all the reviews before buying my Zumo 550 and the Rider One had all sorts of problem from falling off the bike to filling up with water. I used to have Compaq/HP iPaqs with tomtom, but if you had a problem it was a nightmare getting it sorted.

I am happy with the Zumo and like the mapsource software for planning trips.

Cheers,

Kev

Thanks for the info Jim & Kev.  Did not find that information when I was researching the units.  Will pass along when asked.

Yes, the falling off bit I've seen too, Kev, though they have a safety lanyard so they can't go anywhere far! On my '03 Ultra I had a nice interface into the Audio System, with Bluetooth, and used my iPaq in a waterproof bar-mounted case with TomTom - worked great. Sadly, no such interface exists for the HK audio system.

I don't have ability to talk Bluetooth on my bike, but I have had my phone paired to my Zumo. This will give me the ability to know if I've had a call (hint... from wife), and if I want to stop and call back asap. :nervous:

Good one Gary!!
