Boom Audio Stereo
« on: December 23, 2012, 03:58:39 PM »

So I want to upgrade my stereo in my RG. The parts catologue says the HD Boom audio system requires dealer digital software update? Wondering why or if it is required to make the system work properly. If any after market system will plug and play, why won't the Harley system work the same?

I wouldn't waste my money on that system. Get a good aftermarket system.

X2

After 3 head units, 2 amps, 1 set of tweeters an ipod module and ipod harness. I agree. Go aftermarket.

Most of us take that stuff out.  Go aftermarket for sure.  The hd stuff isn't worth  it.  :nixweiss:

it really comes down to money.  the aftermarket systems are okay but if you want good music with great sound listen to it at home or in your car.  on my bike I am happy to have some tunes that sound ok but the wind noise and exhaust note are really what I am interested in.  plus the wind noise interferes with truly good audio fidelity as far as your ability to hear certain frequencies regardless how much you spend.  the boom audio on my '13 CVO Ultra sounds a great deal better than what was on my '09 CVO Ultra.  Voting with my dollars I am happy with the boom system on my bike.  you need to take a ride on a bike that someone has upgraded with an aftermarket system to really make a good decision.  most of them sound fine when you are standing next to them not moving.
to answer your original question, the boom system may require an upgrade or download because the factory system without the boom system has frequency or power restrictions on the factory amp.

I did an upgrade.  It is night and day better with the new amp and better speakers all around.  I do lots of long day rides.  Listening to the motor and wind gets me tired and bored. A  great sound system might even save your life by keeping you alert.   And it makes the day so much more enjoyable.  My system sounds great at half volume. We do all kinds of upgrades on these bikes.  I know this is a big ticket, but to me it makes more sense than just looking for some extra torque and Hp.   Just sayin,, :nixweiss:

I agree with HDCTSS. I have had all aftermarket stuff on my previous bikes , and yes they sound great while the bike is standing still just like the Boom Audio does. I ride at 80 all day long with Rhinehearts and I can hear my Rock just fine and so can my wife as we listen to her Latin Music.. Comon guys, I gotta compromise..Don't waste your money on aftermarket stuff its junk to and will ultimately affect your electrical and fuse system. Its all made in China,Japan or Tiawan. Its whoever markets their stuff the best. I built a Custom Road Glide for a guy who spent 5K on AMps, Subs, Kickers xtra BAtteries just for the system and chargers, and it never worked correctly. Sounded great sittin still but once the vibration and the road took in it was done.. Also, Aftermarket buyers beware, don't get that stuff wet. Buy more chrome Horse power brother.

Your system sounds fantastic while we were standing outside cafe 27 Very strong, crisp, powerful and clear. Way better than my stock system, but when we were riding back from the Keys at 80 mph next to one another all I could hear was mine and it sounded great. I compare it to Pipes, Everyone likes differsnt ones and they all sound different on everyones bike at different speeds. Cant wait to ride Sunday my brother
