Headsets
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:35:31 AM »

I've looked at the J&M webpage but I don't think that it is what I need. Can anyone tell me the difference between 77147-91C and 77147-98?
I've also seen at various bike shows the Big Ear product (www.bigearinc.com). Does anyone have any input on this? They apparently have a harness to work on the Ultras that is not on the webpage. Finally is the CB. M&M has the mike "kit" on eBay. Is that all that I need (where are the controls and functions?)? Thanks in advance, AJ

hard10...the 98 part number is what you want for your bike, if you go with HD headsets.  You must be planning on using the CV without a helmet headset to need the mike?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

If you want an extra headset, I have two I will sell for half price...90 bucks each.  Used for 3 1/2 months.  I have J&M's built into my Nolan N102's now.

Thanks TC. I probably will only use the CB when crusin long hauls at which point I'll have to have my helmet. So that just saved me a few $. I'll let you know about the head sets. Thanks for the offer, AJ

AJ...you get one with the bike, so if you want to talk through the intercom to your passenger, you'll need two, otherwise, one will do you.  Personally, I think the mike would be useless unless you want the CB coming through the stereo speakers.

No helmet law in SC. I quess I was under the impression that you needed the mike for the CB to work. I've never owned a Touring bike before. I'm sold on the headset. I'm sure Sassy will want to keep yacking even after I install the louder pipes. I'll PM in a minute. AJ

OK, another quick newbie question: Do you have to have a 3/4 helemt for the headset to work? How does it attach? Will a short helet work? Is the earpeice and the mic boom connected? As always thanks in advance, AJ

I was also wanting to know if the stock headset will work without the zipper collar attacted. Because here in Hawaii it is still hot, but me and the bride do wear 1/2 helmets.

I think you're pretty much outta luck if you want a headset with a half lid. There has to be something to attatch the speakers to. ( like the one above)but, where there is a will, there is a way I guess. When my wife and I ride with half helmets, there really is no need for headsets as we can just talk and listen to the stereo thru the external speakers. But when the full face helmets are worn, headsets are a must.

On my half helmet, had my wife sew a piece of fabric (something similar to seatbelt strap) on the straps across the area around the ears and then sew a piece of velcro on that so the earpieces are held on by velcro.

PMaitland - thanks for the idea, maybe I will give it a try. Because I want to start using the headset while performing Road Capt. duties on Chapter rides

A local moto cop uses a SEER helmet with comms from SETCOM.  It's a half helmet, with a really neat three snap setup on the ear straps. The speakers in a pouch, which also supports the mic.  Speakers that snap on the straps also serves as a ear cover. I like this setup, but in practical use, ahas anyone done this mod using a JM, since I think SETCOM spells government, and the associated really high price, and probablyt wrong impedences...
