Harley radar detector any good?
« on: November 24, 2006, 12:28:46 PM »

What's the verdict on the Harley radar detector?  Is it affective or not? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I have the HD Radar Detector which was installed when I picked up my bike in April.  I found it to be very useful, especially on our trip to Sturgis this past summer.  There have been a number of times that I probably would have gotten a ticket, but was saved by the detector.  I believe the HD detector is actually made by Escort, which is the brand I have in my car.  I think they do a great job.  Most of the time you get nailed is around town when you're doing 40 in a 30 and you have no idea.  I highly recommend having a detector onboard.  I figure the cost of the detector equals one ticket along with either traffic school and/or insurance increase.  Good luck! I have one and it has saved me 2 times, and picks up lazer as well.  I recommend it, only draw back is you have to drill an hole in the fairing.  The stock mount does look good even without the detector on it.  If you install the unit and mount yourself, when tightening the mounting bracket be careful to not push to hard on the bolts.  The nuts will push out of the plastic backing plate.

Good advice from Roadrunner...be careful when tightening the screws as they will pull the nuts out of the plastic.

What's that mean ?  You haven't got any tickets since you bought it ? I haven't got a speeding ticket in 4 years without a radar detector. Can I bid out my services ?  Ok, folks auction here. Spiderman rides on your handlebars and tells you when to go fast and when not to. Do I hear $100 to open the bidding?  ;D
