All,

I called over to http://stores.gpscrazy.com/-strse-110/Garmin-Zumo-550/Detail.bok tonight and spoke with Bill the owner of the company.   He was very friendly and willing to help me out with a few questions about the 550.  He says he is willing to consider a group buy from the site if anyone is interested or maybe interested.  I gave him the address and Naitrams info to send him a message about possibly setting up as a vendor on the site.

Currently the price is 739.99 including shipping per his site.

Please post if you would have interest in something like this.

William,
Welcome aboard, glad you found us, and glad to have you. Since you indicated you are willing to offer a group discount you may want to send a PM to Naitram and let him know you are interested in being set up as Vendor, and he can give you information where it would be appropriate to offer your discount. Thanks for joining and look forward to doing business with you.

William, if you log back in to check this thread and consider a group purchase discount for the product would you consider a mixed product group?  If so please offer a price point on teh 2820 as well as the Zumo and what total number of units would need be sold to achieve the discount you suggest.

I would advise caution guys.  I ordered mine from this guy on 11/15 and received it 12/5.  I was very worried about fraud until I finally got it on 12/5.  No tracking number and no replies to emails and phone calls.  There are poor ratings all over bizrate from his company.  Yes, I did recieve it and all, finally, but customer service is not a huge priority.  The box was unsealed, but I think everything was still inside.

Now that I see William's email address, and know that I emailed him (the owner) directly twice, instead of the customer service generic email, I am more unimpressed.  I still got no response.  Obviously his company has the capability to deliver, but I was very dissatisfied with the service.  The price was great tho! Hopefully I don't offend anyone with this, but I want you to have the best info possible.  Any moderator please feel free to delete this if you think it's inappropriate.

Hey guys,

That website is not fair.  We just started advertising on there and they have sent us over 3000 customers, of which 10 had bad replies.  Every one is from the delays we had with the Nuvi 660 and Zumo 550......

Garmin pushed back the release date on us 4 times, but did start shipping to the "big box" companies right away(i.e. Best Buy, Staples, etc.).  Unfortunately, Garmin has great product but they do not treat their "small" retailers very well.

My apologies for the delay with your shipment, but again, we were doing everything we can.  We are a small store, and between the flood of customers in the store, on the web, and the complaints about delivery times on the Nuvi and Zumo we were getting slammed....

We did our best.  We dropped the price of the Zumo to $729.99 on our website, if anybody is still interested.  You may want to purchase quickly, from us or somebody else, because Garmin will be imposing MRP Pricing after Christmas, and everybody should be selling it at $899.99.

For whatever it is worth, we are doing our best, as a small company with only 6 employees.

Also, your Zumo was brand new???  If the box was opened or damaged in any way it had to be during shipping.  If you have any problems, please email me........

If anybody has or plans to purchase from us, please leave a GOOD review on bizrate.com(assuming we deserve it).  They always seem to post only the bad ones........

Bill (GPSCrazy),

While it was great talking to you on the phone, I have a complaint as well.  Yes you picked up the phone the first time i called, but the next 3 times it went to voicemail.  I have emailed your company and left messages.  I was the one that invited you here and you were going to get back to me about the hard wiring for guys with roadkings and about the possibility of a group buy for this site.  I have yet to hear from you and yet to get a response from your email team.   While you maybe busy, you told me personally you would get back to me, yet its been a few days a few calls / emails and I am a bit suspect to be honest.

Dear Spectator.

Hmm, the last note you sent out to the group is a bit disconcerting.  Kinda reminds me of this guy Unbalanced, who had no patience for lack of followup.  On the other hand, if the price is right, I would be interested, as long as it has a color choice for the case, a chrome mount for my SEUC, and no one else had one within 10 miles of me, so when i stumble, I mean walk out to my bike, I will recognize it as mine, not my evil twin's.   [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Guess the gentleman decided against offering the group a group discount for several purchases concurrent?  Oh well......

By the way, how does Garmin or any other vendor mandate MSRP pricing?  Once a company has bought product it is theirs to do with (pretty much) as they please.  You can give it away if you want to.

I hate it when the sniff test is failed.

Actually, Garmin mandates that authorized dealers, who are supposed to get the products first, sell at MSRP, so that there are no price wars.  Garmin tries very hard to keep the prices consistent.  XBOX and Playstation do this too.  Some dealers get around this by adding accessories to the bundle for the same price, but there's little they can do.  If Garmin catches them 'cheating' too much, they will cut them off from supply.  So there IS plenty they can do...if they want to.  Hope this helps.  Also, I didn't mean to set off a firestorm with William.  I stand behind the comments about customer service.  It's either there or it isn't.  I know setting up a small business is hard, but customer service trumps all.  Communication with customers is the biggest way to overcome diversity and shipping delays.

It's evident that there is a lot of interest here on the forum. I would think that if this guy is serious about a group discount, he should provide it ASAP!  I believe in the GPS and have found them VERY useful.  I hope he will come through for the group, as I believe there will be a lot of purchases.  All we can do is wait and see [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  I am concerned about customer service, so if he comes back with group discounts, I would also want to know that he is committed to taking care of service after the sale.
