Decision time... on the Maple FLTRXSE the Chrome looks better... on the skunk the black may look better and on the blue.. who knows..
For the life of me I dont understnad the half-baked attempt HD was trying to do with these bikes...
-
Same with the SESGs. It is weird.
-
Sometimes color and chrome looks just fine ::) .

Decision time... and on the blue.. who knows..
Go blue!

I already got my Maple... very happy with it....just wish I could enjoy riding it.
Tailbone injuries SUCK!
But I can sit on it and make potatopotatopotato noises.. :)

Maybe color and chrome isn't the solution. Maybe it's color on chrome :nixweiss: ?
-
twolane... both your examples are great.. its just something about either powdercoating the forks and cowbells or chroming them... looks 1/2 cooked.

All kidding aside I had the same reaction when first saw the (then) new bikes with the colored cowbells over the chrome legs. Just doesn't look right to me. And does look 1/2 done. If the color were top and bottom with chrome in the middle might look better. But as it appears someone had a good idea and then just stopped halfway down.
-
My thoughts too.... excuse the mess of a shop, things where hectic that week!
-
If I had a skunk it would get black legs and cowbells. Quick.
-
Yeah. To make it skunkier.
-
Twolane is that your latest project.Nice job.Looks slick.

The cowbells are cheaper than the lower legs.... :)
but the same amount of labor to change them... so its a draw...
WHat I dont like about the black PC, is its more of a dark grey and not truly black.
When the bike is inthe sun it is obvious the black PC does not match the paint (or its just my OCD misbehavin)
-
But it would be the same gloss black PC that's on the engine components, therefore, a match from that (OCD) perspective, right?

Yes it is... but when you transition from the lower paint color to the PC, you can see the obvious difference. I've never expected an engine to be the same color as the paint (my names not twolane :huepfenlol2:)

Get a cheap pair of bare aluminum legs off eBay and have a powder coater do them and your cowbells a good gloss black.

That was it. Thanks. Red Skunk!

I'm thinking put the chrome on my wife's Road King and then PC the legs and bells the "correct" black... and FWIW I even saw a PC color that looked just like the Maple!
-
There is a PC color out there that looks very close, my future son in law does PC for a very large appliance company and they have tons of colors available :jalapeno:, my next step is to PC my engine guard the same as Molly (Maple), was looking at the black but I think the brown will make more of statement IMO.

Dare.. do you have a close up of the tour pak and passenger pad?
-
Here is the short q/d backrest
everything is in the same brown as the seat.
-
and here is one of the tour pack, blacked out all the hardware and mouting and the fugly chrome on the underside of the corner.

by the way 2012, my dealer gave me a 20% off on everything since i ordered all the stuff when i bought Molly, the HD paint was well worth the extra $$, i am an old time bodyman/painter and its nuts on to the bike and looks great. I could have matched it but given what i needed and didnt have anymore as far as shop and mixing machine it was all good. plus this way i was able to ride a little before our snows came in and the roads are covered with salt for the next two months.
enjoy yours, if you need any more send me a pm and i will hook you up
ride safe

Have been working on my Maple for about a month now. Considered blacking out the front as I did on my Vivid Black 2011 103 RG, but changed my mind. Some chrome to add accents just seems to look better on the Maple. Little or no chrome just looks a little to dark on a bike with this nice a paint job. Diff strokes for diff people, what makes the world go round I guess! JMHO.
-
I agree Ga. i have tried to keep the chrome where i think it looks better and have some things blacked/browned out to help the looks, just pc'd the front rotor bolts to add some black to the chrome on the rotors. i think it helps.
-
Should look good there!

you cowbells should be the same color as the dark finish on the bike. they are color matched to the inner fairing if you look at them in the sun you will see that. the black on the engine covers is just that...black

NO.. they are gloss black PC.. but are NOT the save as the vivid black paint, and it is VERY obvious.

both of the other colors have a metallic flake in them. didnt realize the Maple was just vivid black...it would have looked better with the black on the white one...IMHO
-
Personally I perfer the Vivid Black. I think metal flake in the black would take away from the flake in the Maple. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Of coarse I did trade in a Vivid Black bike ;D

I think the metal flake in the black on the white one looks great, it really complements the flake in the white. It is not as noticeable a flake as the white.
