Hello all,  once again i need some help with regard to the AIM slave cylinder. sorry in advance if this is a little long ...so,  just a little background ... the new to me 2018 limited cvo clutch was engaging way too far out in the lever travel...  i'm sure everybody is familiar with the issue.  I had heard there was a recall with the slave.  local dealer check history and saw that my bike had already been updated with new slave.   I decided to get the AIM light force slave cylinder .... and understood that it would bring engagement closer to the grip and cut the force needed in half ...  who could not love that?  ha

I had to remove exhaust shields and even loosen the header pipe to get the side cover off.   While removing old slave cylinder noted that there was fluid in the cavity ...   am i correct that i should not see fluid behind the slave?  this might explain why travel was so far out to begin with .....

and secondly, after installing the new AIM slave i can barely feel any clutch at all ...   i cant really test without putting it all back together ....     is it normal that the new AIM slave is truly such a light pull ?      i did put it in gear and and can feel resistance with hand lever out, and little resistance with level pulled ....  its just so easy to pull the clutch lever it almost as if there is no resistance ...   is this normal?

thanks for any feedback ...

The amount of force needed to activate the clutch lever is a lot less with the AIM or Muller slave cylinder. As long as you bled it properly, than the unit is operating properly. And yes, since Harley designed the new exhaust system for the M8 on a computer, the exhaust header does need to be loosened to be able to get at the clutch bleed screw. Harley never realized that the redesigned header would require loosening to be able to bleed the clutch slave cylinder. Bone heads.

I just hope you got a good AIM cylinder that doesn't leak down after a some miles.
I went through three (under warranty) of them before I got tired of loosening the header and just got the Muller cylinder. Works excellent.

Thanks for the feedback Bob ...   In addition to header pipe and shields i just installed the cool flow fan ...  I think that will have to be removed also if i need to replace or even bleed the slave .... which means the battery also has to be removed ... haahha  what have i gotten myself into ...     I put about 1/4 can of fluid through the the line so i'm hoping no air ...  but i can pull in the clutch with two fingers ... that worried me a little ...   ;D

i am waiting for more parts so i wont have it running to test out for a few more days ...
if all is good i will close out the thread at that time ...

Thanks again ..

There's a fairly simple fix for the travel to almost fully out before the clutch engages, Dave.  Took HD a few years of listening to people complaining before the fixed it (how unusual - not!) At long last Harley addressed the problem on 2019 models - they simply fitted a slightly thicker judder spring seat, and as if by magic, problem solved. (This thicker seat can be fitted on models back to 2014). Part # for the item is 37000295, and it's only a few dollars.

There are a few threads on here about it (which is how I found out about it.)

HA!  i watched a youtube vidio on that 37000295 part...  yes,  that would have been alot simpler fix ...  should have done my homework first before throwing money at it ...  but i did find fluid behind the original slave so im pretty sure i needed to replace the slave anyway ...  thanks for bringing that fix to my attention ... if i still have an issue i will install that part ..

My 2020 CVO Limited came with the thicker spring and I still felt the clutch pull was the same as it was on my previous 2017 Limited (non CVO).
The AIM or Muller makes all the difference in the world.

Yep, judder spring seat does nothing for the force required to pull, it just moves the engagement point.  I'm happy enough with the pull, so the new part was all I needed, and a godsend to me.

So, does anyone know if this judder spring seat will work on 2012 models? what;s the difference in the housing or handle bars ? I know a member here did some machining on the lever to change the engage position

Pretty sure the 12 didn't come with the a&s clutch which is what these newer bikes are using.

I have had the Mueller on my last 2 CVO including my 2020 CVO Street Glide. They have been wonderful. I did not go with the AIM because of the issues I read about.

I have the Muller hydro clutch in my 2019
Best money I’ve spent recently on the new bike!
I have about 10k miles on the muller so far and no issues.
Love it.

Smart move. I wasted $270.00 plus the PITA of loosening the exhaust header (3 times) to install the AIM junk. Even after they sent me 2 redesigned replacements, neither one operated like it was supposed to for more than 2 weeks. But back when I was first looking into the slave cylinder, I never heard of the Mueller unit.
It has operated consistently since installation.

Just wanted to give a followup on this AIM clutch slave that i installed ...  have not had any issues with bleed down since the install..... so far that is ...

It did just what i needed, clutch starts engagement about 3/4's of an inch from the grip ...  and best of all is the amount of force required to pull and hold the clutch  is exactly what i needed to be able to ride again ... i lost some strength in my little fingers from neck injury during my crash ...

If i have any issues with this AIM slave i will trash it and install the Mueller slave for sure and be done with it ...

If anyone knows of a trans side cover that would make a simple clutch slave replacement of even bleeding said clutch would love to hear about it ...

Thanks again for all the advise ...
