If you have never rode the park way it is a must do. My brother and a friend decided to go with me. A trip I have been waiting to do for a long time. I decided to ride the Blue Ridge then on to DC to go to the NAVY museum. We check the weather for the weekend. We are leaving on Thursday and going to be back home On Tuesday. Weather is going to be good, 75 degs. And sunny.
We left Northwest GA area we are going take 3 day on the parkway then 1 day in DC then 2 day travel home by the Interstate.
We leave early Thursday morning stopping at Cracker-barrel for breakfast to start the day. We riding around the Ocoee river around the Nantahala river. Just a Great morning, Scenery was just Amazing. We stop in Cherokee NC for lunch just about 2 mile from the Beginning of the Parkway. We ride the Parkway about 100 mile and my throttle cable broke. WE pulled over to look at it. Nothing we could do on the side of the road. It was the return cable so I still had throttle. We rode to the next junction about 35 mile. that put us off in Asheville NC. We went ahead and got a motel. We watch a little TV and notice that we might get some rain from Sandy the Hurricane. No Worry. Got up the next morning and ate Breakfast then headed to the Harley shop about 10 mile away. They didn't have a cable to fix it not even a plain black one or take off. I pulled the old broke cable out and adjusted the pull cable so I could use it and we started again.
We take off again the ride is Amazing, weather is great. We ride for about 150 miles. Stopping ever so often at the over looks. We get off the parkway right before it gets dark. find some food and a motel. Just FYI the Holiday INN express was a nice place to stay. We ended up in Wilkesboro NC nice town. While setting in the motel watch TV the news tell us to get out of town there a Hurricane coming. We watch the local weather and take our chances.
We eat breakfast at the motel and head out. We get to the parkway and it is still amazing. but it getting foggy fast. You can't see 10 feet in front of you. But we keep pushing and it clears up in about 20 mile. the roads are wet but no rain. The colors are just Amazing the whole trip. We ride 250 mile the last 30 mile in the dark. But we was try to finish so we could make plans to go home or go it to DC. We got a motel in Windgrove VA. Watching the news we decided in the morning we need to head South that Sandy wasn't going to let us go any further. So we rode in the misty rain for about 300 miles before it stopped. We did 425 straight home 47 degs. But it was still the Best ride I have done. As I said everybody needs to ride the Parkway at least once. Keep Riding and Have Fun doing it.
