HARLEY PART 38668-00A CLUTCH CABLE
« on: August 15, 2015, 10:55:40 AM »

The adjuster is broken on my 2000 SERG clutch cable. It is fully braided and laminated end to end. The part number is obsolete. I found one on ebay tagged with the 38668-00A part number, but it is only halfway braided and laminated. My question is should that part number (38668-00A) be fully braided? Maybe the ebay one was marked wrong?

The stock cable was black on the lower half.  If you want braided end to end don't worry though.  The aftermarket and Harley itself have product lines of braided cables.  Just look something up for a 2000 Road Glide.  So long as you've never swapped handlebars and because of that need a longer cable you'll be good to go.  Or just use the one you found on eBay if it's a good deal.

Thanks for the info. I will probably just use the half braided one for now and one day get the fully braided type that came on the bike. The seller of the bike might have changed it some where along the line.

Since he'd changed the cable at some time do you know if he'd changed the bars or not?  One change might have brought the other along with it.  Would hate to see you spring for a new stock cable then discover it's not long enough.

Thanks for the concern. As far as I know, the bars are stock. I already have the ebay cable in my hand. I paid a premium thinking it was an original CVO cable, which is obsolete. The seller offered to return my money, shipping included, but I think I will just go with it.

Braided at the top end and black on the lower half is what the stock cable was.
