Yesterday, I had to go to DC and I decided to ride the bike. It's 200 miles from my house. I left the house 4:30 am and around 5:30 on the road suddenly I smelled burning oil. I thought it must be from some of the trucks on the road. About 8:00, I stopped for the gas and at the pump I saw oil splatter on the back header pipe and on the side of the back cylinder. I check the A/C for blow back, but it was clean. I was pi$$ed off.
This bike was remapped to run rich before left the dealer and I know for fact it runs a lot cooler than my old RK with 88 engine. So the heat was not a problem. It must be crappy materials that was used. Now I have to go for that "improvement upgrade". The service guy said when they take it appart, they will check for lateral move in the cylinder, apparently there have been some problem with that also. :shout:
It also appears that the front caliper is warped, the front tire shakes when I hit the from break. :-[
I have less than 6000 miles on the bike.

A leaky Head Gasket? Really? Can that happen to our brand new really expensive motorcycles? Holy crap! HD wouldn't let that happen to all of us faithful and loyal customers, would they? Nah! Must be your imagination! Nothing but the best built, best engineered motorcycles come from my MoCo!!! :nixweiss:

Sorry to hear about the problem. It really doesn't suprise me or Howie either. Yep I can hear it coming now FTHG!!!!!!!
Look at it on the good side (if there is one) They get a chance to try to fix yours also!!!!!
Be Safe
THE DAWG

And yet, as we all know this is not a real repair. The problem will return since the problem is not gasket design. C'mon, MOCO, puff up your chests and fix this thing the right way!!! BTW, thanks to the MOCO for a wonderful book as a consolation prize in the game of "throw lots of money in and see what you get later..."

I thank Mo Co for the wonderful book. It is great idea and very thoughtful of them. I will be reading it while waiting for the bike to get fixed. :zstupid: :zstupid: :zstupid:
It was the first time I heard of cylinder lining slippage. :o I blame the damn financial meltdown for it. The guys at headquarter are to busy watching their portfolio going down. :stop:
putting a band-aid on an engine design problem makes as much sense as making toast in a bath tub. I'm thinking about booking the first week of October of every year at the dealer for bike fixes.

 your not the only one

I have a question for all wrenches. I don't have my
recall improvement letter, but I thought the was some work on the lower end also.
I have to change the oil (5400 miles), should I wait till after the work is done or should I do it now?
:dankk2: :dankk2: :dankk2:

WAIT! Putting fresh oil in that motor would be a waste of oil and $$$$. :huepfenlol2:

Just an update:
Drop off the bike Tuesday at Bryan's in PA.
Just got a call from service that they saw some pitting in front cylinder and ordered a new one. So the bike is not gonna be ready till next week. They said everything else looks OK.

Pitting in front cylinder, my Dealer called the cylinder / jug porous and replaced both. Reason for replacing both is quite simple bad batch of jugs from the manufacturer why take a chance. My problem was discovered and replaced 05/15/07.
-
They had to check the back one and since they didn't see anything I guess they decided it'll be OK. If that was a bad batch, it would have been pitted also by now (6,000 miles).

Are you still under warranty?
