WEnt off the CVO Reservation...
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:12:54 AM »

...and added another bike to the fleet.

I have a 2009 Ruby Red FLHTCUSE4 and really like it but wanted a bar hopper for around town.  I explored several Harley and CVO options and was a little underwhelmed by what I came up with.  Then I took a ride on a BD Wolf in Florida and had to have one. 121CI, S&S X-Wedge engine rated at 130hp.

The economy is weak, Big Dog is having financial troubles, I already have a great bike, so there were lots of compelling reasons why I shouldn't buy it.  Bought it anyway.  Having an S&S dual runner air intake system and set of Vance & Hines Big Radius pipes installed next week.  I'll post some pix once the mods are completed.

Nice lines, and a GREAT motor from what I'm hearing! Good luck with it! Let us hear how you like that engine. There's a guy modifying an FL for an X-Wedge engine, and S&S has been documenting it on FB. Waiting to hear all that's required for that. I'd love to theow one in Cybil! All the best with that thing man! :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks.  I took a 20 mile test ride on the bike and the engine really blew me away.  It was incredibly powerful with gobs of torque throughout the powerband which I sort of expected.  What I didn't expect was the greatly reduced vibration and almost non-existent valve train noise-which has always bothered me a little with the Harley 110 CVO motor.

You think that Harley could come up with a good motor like the S&S, got a friend that took the TC out of a street glide and installed an S&S he loves it....

Great looking ride, the lines, the color everything looks perfect.  I understand this new motor is much better than some of the old S&S motors, let us all know after you get some miles on it.

I too have been looking for a bar runner, a little bit nervous though when $30,000 choppers are in the low teens with little to no milage on them, but I am sure I will jump on one when the right one comes across my path.

That made me laugh.  Damn right.  It has to be personalized, breathe better and it sure as hell has to be loud enough to set off my neighbors' car alarms.  That's my rationale, anyway.

It definitely has the traditional V Twin sound.  It has a very deep exhaust note and a nice lope from the cam.  Needs to be louder though which is where my mods come in.  I'll post a video once the exhaust and air intake are added.

Nice choice.  I like the Big Dogs.   I have been to the Big Dog at Wichita and it is very impressive and well worth your time if you get the chance to take the tour.  My understanding is many of the folks that built Cessna's went to work for Big Dog.  I would think the quality would be outstanding.  Maybe it will even fly :2vrolijk_21:

Here's what $35K buys you from Big Dog instead of Harley.  Bought it for riding around town and am still keeping my CVO Ultra for taking trips.  The fit an finish on the bike is impressive.  So is the 130HP S&S X-Wedge motor.  Can't wait to try it out.

There is a passenger seat and backrest but it doesn't look too comfortable.  That's what the Ultra is for.
