What are our bikes worth today?
« on: July 27, 2006, 01:59:52 PM »

Noticed four or five SEEGs for sale in the "Selling" forum.  Makes me wonder, what our bikes (or all twin cam models 06 and back) are worth today vs. what they were worth the day before HD released the news about the 07 models with the bigger motors and the six speeds?  I hate to say it but I'm guessing that our bikes just lost a chunk of change in value of what the market will bare. What's your thoughts on this?

JC

Not sure about today,

but Jan 17, 2005 I wrote a check for $29,066.00 for mine out the door.
16 months and 9465 miles later I sold it for net $29,000.00

And don't even ask about how much I spent on it.
I don't think yours or the 05's have lost any more than normal depreciation.

I think that the potential restriction on modifications to '07s may keep the prices up on the earlier models.  This has been discussed in other areas.

Fortunately I have saved the parts I replaced.  If I were to think of selling, I would sell with all the stock parts on the bike.  That is one thing.

The other thing is I don't think the new bikes hold a candle to the previous models in color and performance.  They just don't look special.  My guess is we took a hit but the changes made on the new models only come half way to the changes we as a whole group have made to our earlier models.  With the 96" as standard on all models, and having a 103 crank, they still have to make mods to come up to our 103" average standard.  The 110" isn't that big of a deal to me.  I would go to 120" before I would change.  Although I sure like Grovers 115.

That said, I think in the short term there is a drop, if we keep the bike a few more years, the price will go up.  I the no engine mods signature sheet is true, there will be a lot of interest in our bikes in years to come.

Just thinking out loud.

Like others have previously said about there bikes to me my bike is priceless. I've taken my time and done what I think should have been done to it before I brought it to make it a true CVO. To start all over again just for a few more ponies, some extra doodads, or any other thing that more then likely I could find in the aftermarket arena for better price and quality...... I think not. Like others here, I have made a lot of mods to my SEEG to get it set up just for me.  I don't care what anyone else thinks it's worth, but (with all due respect to other colors), the O/B gets more positive feedback than most any other bike I know of.  Everyone seems to love it.  I don't think I would ever have a problem selling it for as much as I paid for it.  I love it so much that my next upgrade will be a complete Zipper's 120.

"What are our bikes worth today?".  That's a perspective question and one I believe only you guys and gals on this site could appreciate.  Does a perspective buyer really care that I chromed every bolt on my bike (even the one's under the seat...yes I am getting treatment for my ocd), does a perspective buyer appreciate that I added chrome cable ties in place of those cheap plastic black ones, does a perspective buyer have a clue or even know what it means to me to have tripple platinum SE spark plugs.  I think not.  And, wholeheartedly believe only you and me know the true worth of our bikes ;)

That sums it all up [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]. The true passion we have for our machines is not something that you can put a $ amount on.

On the open market however its a different story, I think initially the value may decrease a bit but in the long run these bike will hold there value better than any other production vehicle on the road today.

As far as resale value, a bike is a lot like a horse----It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I have a couple of $30K horses, anyone care to make me an offer?
