BMW to issue safety recall on 40,000 motorcycles

BMW plans to issue a safety recall on more than 40,000 of its motorcycles. Affected models have a defective rear flange that could cause the brakes to fail or the rear wheel to fall off.

The recalls are for the 2005 through 2010 model years of the company's popular R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure bikes, plus some R 1200 RTs and other models from 2005 to 2011.

They also had a recall a year or so ago, of the suspension (electronic adjustment I think?) on some of their bikes where one of the options was BMW bought the bikes back. They didn't have a fix at the time :nervous:

That's some serious chit there.  Rear wheel might come off - yikes!  I seem to recall Honda had a problem with welds on the aluminum frames on their Gold Wing several years ago.

While our Harleys have their own unique problems they do seem to be built on a solid foundation.

A month ago I traded my 2007 R1200RT in for a 15 Sea Doo GTXis260.  Last November it was in for a fuel pump and injection recall.  One month to Rolling Thunder and then on to Ribfest Ed

Well then.....either one of those options would just ruin your day, wouldn't it?

I do not remember a recall on an HD product that ever stated anything like this and we've had some doozies.  These are on 2005 through 2010 BMW motorcycles....took them long enough to admit the issue.  Now THAT sounds more like the MoCo...... ::)
