Big Inch EVO Oil Temp
« on: July 03, 2012, 10:59:58 PM »

I have a S&S V111 motor with a Jagg 10 row oil cooler and Dyna TC  thermostat . What should the normal
oil temp be?  In 95 degree weather 300 mile ride the oil temp reads about 190. Is my analog dipstick wrong ? What should be the norm?
Thanks

190 doesn't seem to bad on that size motor. I believe twin cam's average running temp is about 230 and most Evo's stay under 200.

My 1999 Evo never has shown more than 210 in the hottest weather. Carb is much richer than today's injected,EPA settings.       JoeS

ITANK,I have a 95 Heritage with an S&S 107. It has twin billett oil coolers, one on each down tube, and no thermostat.  If the air temp is over 90 degrees I will always be between  190 and 200 maybe 205 depending if I am on the freeway or on surface streets.  I have a HD analong temp gauge in my oil tank. I do remember a trip I made from Simi Valley, CA. to Fresno, Ca. last summer when it was about 104 outside and I did get up to 230 degrees when I got off the freeway, but it didn't seem to hurt anything. I really wish I would have put a jagg oil cooler on,  the billet ones look good running down each side of the frame, but I really think they don't drop the temp much compared to a Jagg setup. If you are only topping out at 190 degrees I wouldn't worry about a thing. CAHDBIKER
