Dont use the softbrake license plate treatment.  It is not the same as the one they use on the FLHT's.  The one for the RGU needs to fit in the hole for the tail light, and it causes the tail light to not fit flush.  I've lost my photos of mine, but the people at softbrake didn;t seem to care.

Use harley parts, like a road king or something.  Will look much better.  might cost more but looks really good.

I am in the middle of a "Pack off" on a limited. Using the same bracket mounted where the reflector was located on the turn signal bar. It will cover the top 1/3 of the CVO emblem. I am also adding a LED light hidden under the bar for plate illumination.

"Pops" that is looking slick. Really like the direction you are going.

Are you running a hidden CB antenna? I am looking at the JM hidden antenna now. Mine will be a much simpler look when the pak is off.  Smoke lens turn signals on the saddle bags, stock mufflers with fullsac baffles and a solo seat when the pak is off.

I have the Harley hidden stereo antenna in the fairing...I just rolled the CB antenna up under the seat I never use it anyway. Wife and I don't use the intercom either.

Hi Dave, I took a good look at your thread before I started the project...I went ahead and cut my wire harness to the tour pack and installed a 12 pin Deutsch connector from Wirecare.com...I purchased the $50 crimper and it worked perfect...Im going with the lighted plate bolts on mine instead of the lighted frame because I like the added brake light feature.

Finally got some decent weather here in NE Ohio and was able to ride with the "Pack Off"...Ineradicable how much different the bike handles without the extra top weight. Just moving it around in the garage is a whole lot easier. I highly recommend this mod. and if anyone needs help with it let me know...Took a few good pics of what my RG looks like now.

That looks great. Where did you mount the amplifier? DO your power locks for the saddlebags still work?
How much do you think it cost you for the parts to do this?
I have the same bike and I'd love to go packless!!

I just set the amp in the right saddle bag for now the lid closes fine with no modifications. Gonna upgrade to an inside the fairing amp and saddle bag speakers next...Yes the side bag locks work fine...I have around $500 bucks in this mod and that includes the $50 crimper for the Deusch connectors.

I would have never guessed the lid would close so easily without mods , that's great news.
$500 sounds great. Any more pictures would be really appreciated as would a parts list.
Tell me if this sounds correct.
Remove the antenna and cb cables and wrap them up under the seat.
Install a hidden antenna in the fairing.
Pull the wires out of the tourpac and remove tour-pac and stock rack.
Install detach rack on tour-pac and docking hardware on bike.
Drop the amp into the saddlebag.
Cut the wires in the loom under the seat and install a 12 pin Deutsch. Reinstall wires in tourpac.
I'll need to change the plate and light as you've done.
I should be good to go?

Excellent.
I don't suppose you'd have pictures of the 12 connector?
Also, what happens to the speaker wires and the intercom. wires?
Pictures would be great.
Don't mean to be a pain in the ass, but I'd really like as much info as I can before I dive into this.

That doesn't look like it takes up much room at all. I had visions of it filing the saddlebag and there wouldn't be room for much else.

Yes the plugs are inside the rear speaker boxes...just give a little tug on the wires and the rubber grommet and plug will pull through the hole...dont pull too hard, if it seems like its stuck remove the speaker grills and speaker to access the plugs...The whole job was kind of a investigate, evaluate and apply common sense type of thing...I suppose theres a few different ways to do it but just take your time and plan your approach to each aspect of the job and its no problem.

One mistake I did make was with the Deutsch plug..I wanted the male end under the seat because I purchased the dust cap for it...My thinking was male plug takes the male pins right...wrong...the male side of the plug takes the female pins and the female plug takes the male pins. I realised this after I had all the pins crimped on the wires so for now its backwards..I ordered new pins and im gonna cut, switch and recrimp so the male plug is under the seat with the dust cap...

I ordered my plugs from here.

Great. You've been most helpful. If there's anything else you can think of, please let us know.
THe tip about the male and female ends really is priceless for someone that's never done this before.
I did change the bars and run the wires inside the bars on my 99' Ultra, so I have some idea what the deutsch plugs are all about as I had to disassemble and reassemble them to run the wires internally.
If you happen to have the seat off again and you can pull that plug out a bit so I can get a better look at where to cut it, that would be great.
If not no big deal.
THanks again.

Believe it or not, I have another couple of questions pops.
In the video from Kuryakyn showing the plate install on a Street Glide or a Road Glide custom, they used the stock plate bolts. More specifically the plate mount bolt holes. On our bikes are the holes there ready to go?
Also, does the 3157 Kuryakyn plate come with the filler plate they show in the video?

Our turn signal brackets have a little reflector bolted to the back side...Remove the turn signal assembly from the fender and you'll see what i'm talking about...remove the reflector and bolt the license plate bracket in its place...You'll prob have to grind the corners of the new license plate bracket a little by the bolt holes, they interfere with the turn signal bracket.

No welding at all...Those tabs are the mounting locations for the filler piece between the fender and the saddle bag...I cut two pieces of 1/8" x 1" wide alum and drilled a hole in each end..Bolted them between the tabs and the filler and then bolted them to the amp...took all of 30 min and works perfect. The amp cable is just long enough to reroute and plug in.
