Wheeldock centerstand
« on: October 04, 2011, 11:24:45 AM »

I have heard a lot about this item, however the reviews appeared to be not that great. Is it true that this particular bike is too high for the stock center stand and becomes unstable on it ? I would like to know before pitching almost $300 bucks for it!!!

Thanks!

I have one on my '04 SEEG with no issues, works great and very stable.  Can't see why it would be any different on your bike.  The HD centerstand sucks.

I just emailed the company. this is the response I got:
"Yes, we add an extra 1/4 inch to these bikes for good stability. Give us a call to order this custom size. Price is the same and it will take a day to build.

The only difference between my bike and yours is the ride height likely due to different size wheels which would require a slightly taller stand.  When you say stability I'm thinking tipping over, so unless they're making the stand wider, I would say it is taller due the the wheel size difference

That's exactly what I tried to say. If the stand is too short or too narrow the bike will tip over. In this case is the height rather than the width, but at the end the bike will rest on its side regardless.

Thanks

I have the Wheeldock center stand on my Road Glide Ultra SE and it works great.  It takes a little practice to get it extended.  I highly recommend it.

I've been tossing this around my head for a while as I really miss the center stand I had on my old '01 Ultra. My concern is ground clearance. My '06 Ultra has been lowered with Street Glide shocks in the rear and shorter Progressve springs up front. It now sits as low as a Street Glide and I am scraping everything. I removed the floorboard spaces and raised the boards to the highest setting. Last weekend I tore off the kickstand spring so I am really concerned about height clearance. Is anybody on a Street Glide experiencing clearance issues with their centerstand?

I have an '09 FLHX with the HD centerstand, and it looks quite abused.  I consider myself a 50%-60% percent rider, and drag the centerstand in corners occasionally.  I would think anyone who considers themselves a 70%-80% rider would have cause for concern, at least with the HD version.

I've got a Rivco center stand on a SEEG, which sits lower than the current SESG's, and I've never come close to touching the stand during cornering (but my footboard supports are ground down pretty well).  The only place it could possibly touch is at the mounting plate under the frame, like when traveling over a speed bump, because the bolt heads do extend down beyond the lowest portion of the frame.  I figured when I first looked at installing it many years back that I'd have to lay the bike down to actually cause the feet or the operating arm to touch.  The stands with larger and more extended operating levers may be different.

A good center stand is worth it's weight in gold, and they should be standard equipment IMHO.  Plenty of other bikes that cost one heck of a lot less than a Harley do have them as standard equipment.  And some, like BMW, are actually electro-hydraulic and operate with a button, no huffing and puffing required.

+1 for the Wheeldock stand.  I have one on my 2011 CVO Road Glide.  By far the easiest to use centerstand I've ever used.  Easy to install and a breeze to put the bike on and off it, particularly if you are used to centerstands.  Be sure you get the custom version they make for these CVO bikes as discussed in this tread and others.  The one difference on this stand is that it doesn't elevate the rear wheel off the ground, but if you need that you just slip a 1/2" or so piece of plywood under the feet.  I have a RIVCO stand on my 2003 Ultra, and it's relatively easy to use, but does require some muscle.  However, RIVCO stands for '09 and later HD's won't work on these CVO bikes due to clearance issues with the passenger footpegs.  Some of my riding buddies have the HD stands and really dislike them, which I would agree with after trying them - balance is off and the footpeg is not well placed.  I've read about folks dragging the Wheeldock stand - I haven't experienced that yet, but I'm careful to avoid speedbumps and the like.  I've been through some tight cornering with it also and no issues with it dragging there either.

Good luck -

I just ordered one . I spoke with Rod the company president and told me to get the part # CS-09+1/4" , Which is the custom for the FLTRUSE.
I will report back when I install it.
Thanks everyone.

Very stable on level ground. Never dragged it in twisties or on speed bumps. Learning curve to get good with it. Never coming off.

I have the WheelDock CS on my '08 SEUC, which is lowered 1" front and 1" rear.  I scrape the CS all the time on twisties, tight slow-speed turns, and on speed bumps.  Even so, I won't remove the CS because it is a great thing.

I've got the wheeldock CS on my '09 SE Ultra,  I find it a little awkward to get it up on the stand and cannot get it down off the stand without cranking the bike and dropping it in gear..............with two up,  this results in minimal wheel spin........just me and I'll lay some rubber down.

Bad results after putting it up on the stand in my garage as the floor is painted.  I now have a rubber burnout mark down thru the paint.   Speed bumps can and will scrape the stand.

Installed mine. Very well built, stable. VERY TRICKY TO USE WHEN ON THE BIKE. There is a learning curve. Use your kick stand while you learn how to deploy it. I dropped the bike once!! Other way to do it, drop your kick stand , get off the bike and deploy the center stand from the left side. Safer , perhaps easier. My 0.02

Once you get the hang of it is real easy when on your bike,  I always make sure my kickstand is down, and most important once you have it up,  Kick it into gear.  I learned the hard way at a gas station that had a Very slight forward incline.

:cherry:  Difficult to see what all the fuse is about. Purchased the stock EZ, took a little while to install to get it into the grove, but very easy 10-15min job, just one bolt!.  Mounting as previous notes, need to get used to it, I find it easier to use whilst on the bike, little effort needed, never bothered to put out the side stand first but no harm I guess. To get off, either push without engine running, very esy to do, or start engine and engage 1st gear. I use this if riding 2 up, so easy. AND you DON't have to wheel spin, can't understand why a previous user has tyre marks in his garage, I don't and its painted too.
I also agree with a previous note, put in gear if on a slight incline otherwise it will slide. But no problem with this new setup as you are unable to start the engine if in gear. Get one, you will find it very worth while, so much easier to clean the bike and access the left storage box.

One thing I have done which does help accessing the lever.
The passenger foot rests are too far forward, hit my legs when standing and does hide the stand lever. I have swaped out the rear foot boards put left on right side and vice versa. (Just the brackets, as you need to keep the boards on same sides to maintain pattern with front boards) This moved the rear boards back 2" and better height adjustment for her indoors. But is also gives better access to the centre stand lever.  :bananarock:

Dont know about that one but the HD stand is like teetsonabull with the factory exhaust configuration....dont ask.... :'(

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy the HD center stand...  :wall: :furious2:    Man, I made a 300.00 mistake going with that HD center stand...

Just a few comments on the HD nd, if in the garage, with the tiles, there is no frigging way that I can put the stand while sitting on the bike... I just can't do it. Very difficult to get my boot in there, and darn thing slips as I try to push it back... plus 5'7" does not help to push this 800lbs gorilla back!  I also forgot to read the fine print on the center stand. The stand can't touch the exhaust... in my case it was touching the exhaust, the pipe that crosses over to the left muffler.

Anyway, when I extended the two plates out to avoid the stand touching the exhaust (the one touching is the left side, if sitting on bike), it makes the stand lift the rear wheel off the floor... remember I am 5'7" that means that if I could not do it with the footpads shorter I have no way in h* to put that friggin thing down with the footpads 2 inches longer!! ^$%$%%$#

Other than that, it works great!  :D  Oh, and that last photo of the bike with the stand in place, do not be fooled... I had to raise the bike with the jack, lower the stand in place and then lower the jack... whoopee doo! :-\

Micer...   The weight distribution on your bike may make the difference or more likely your own body weight is likely what makes it so easy for you.

I'm about 6'2",  but a skinny 160-165 pounds and I cannot get it down without running the engine in first gear.........thus laying the rubber as stated and/or burning the paint in my garage.

Now around 45 years ago,  with the center stand on my 'ol '63 Triumph TR6,  no problems using that center stand at all. :drink:

Hay Wachuko,

Just a suggestion, and I may be way off base here, but try turning the feet around (if possible) and see if that helps. Looking at your photos, it looks like the bent edge should face forward to make it easier to rock the bike up onto the stand.

You may have already tried that and I may be way off, but it's just a suggestion.

The wheeldock is a great product! Since it is not adjustable it has to fit perfectly. I ordered one for the lowered FLHRSEI2 and it was to short. I had installed a 140 tire and Ricors in the front and the bike was enough taller that it was not stable. I called Wheeldock and told them I screwed up. They told me how to measure for correct height and had me return the stand and they sent the correct height. What great customer service! The center stand is my favorite mod.

That's what I thought too, just turn the feet around 180°.  But then I checked the official Harley installation sheet and sure enough they specifically say to do it the way he has them in the photo.
------------------------------------------------------------
"4. See Figure 1.Verify that the motorcycle is level and stable.
Also, verify that the the foot pads are oriented with the
flange side (1) facing to the rear and the flat side facing
the front (2). If the stand needs additional adjustment,
retract the display stand. Adjust foot pads and then engage
the stand again. Repeat this step as necessary."
------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, I would never assume that just because the clowns in Milwaukee say to do something a particular way that they are in fact correct.

wachuko, it looks like what you need to make that stand work is some sort of stop to keep the stand from folding up so far that it contacts the exhaust.  Take a look at where the operating arm  comes close to the frame rail and see if adding a rubber bumper as a stop wouldn't hold the stand legs down far enough to clear the pipe without adjusting them out like that.  btw, are you sure the one you got was designed for the '09 and later frame?

Anybody interested in a Harley-Davidson 09 and newer center stand? The arm has been extended 6 inches so you can get your foot on it to left the bike. Make a offer.

Just be sure that when you go to lower it that you have the kickstand down. This way if the bike falls to the left it lands on the kickstand. If it falls to the right you have your right leg free to support you.

Anybody interested in a Harley-Davidson 09 and newer center stand? The arm has been extended 6 inches so you can get your foot on it to left the bike. Make a offer.
Why don't you like the stand? Or why are you selling?
Thanks

The centerstand got delivered by UPS today. Very easy to install. I have had several Japanese bikes in the past and this beast was easier to put up on the centerstand than any of those. I was even able to put it up on the stand while on the bike. Was a little squirrely at first.  It feels like it wants to fall to the left until both stand feet get on the ground and you get most of your weight on the chrome lever. Just make sure you keep the jiffy stand down when you try for the peace of mind in case it falls to the left. I found it easier to get leverage if the lever is in either the ball of your foot or in the arch and not on your heal. When you put your weight on the lever you have to ensure your weight is off the seat and it pops right up. It is very stable, just ensure you get the extra 1/4 inch added to the legs of the stand. To get it off the stand I just have to rock forward a bit and it comes right off. Sure takes up less room in the garage now.
