Wild ones on the way
« on: November 14, 2011, 07:02:11 PM »

After reading every handlebar thread on this and every other forum I belong to I ordered a set of 14in wild1 chubbies. I am stoked. I talked with the tech that was a little short but still helpful and he said go with +8 cables and said I should also get wire ext. I went to magnum shield and ordered +8 hydraulic clutch and +8 in brake lines. Maria was great! My bike wasn't listed in their data base so we had to do some measuring to compare the Ruse vs rgu. She went out to the garage area to make sure everything was going to work. I have a call out to namz custom cycle for there new "old school" wire ext kit. The kit was in Hot Bike this month. They are 24in long with crimp on 1 end and ready to solder on the other. I figure I can stagger my solders to make them easier to fish through. Also I can cut the wires at the plug and just pull 1 out of the plug at a time and replace with the new one of the same color. Unfortunaley the owner was out of the shop and its so new they don't have  a part # or even no it exists. I had to tell the girl on the phone where to look on their website to see it. I will take some pix with the install and post them when I can. still waiting for it to get a little colder before I start.

I hope so. With the new cables etc was a little more expensive than I was planning. I ordered the wire edge today. The people were very helpfula nd professional. It is a brand new product for them. Will post up pix when parts come in and as I install

Only issue was that the brake lines frrom the abs to caliper do not fit. Will give magnum shielding a call tomorrow and see how they remedy it.

Here are some finished pictures.

I had a little trouble with the hydraulic line for the clutch. The end was straight, if you look at the stock line there is a bend on it. The straight end made the line go right into the cam cover. It would make the bend but I didn't like they way it was. I sent my stock line in and Magnum shielding was able to match the bend. If you are looking to do this contact Maria@magnumshielding.com phone #585 381 8380. Tell her you want the clutch line like Chris's. For the 14s you should use 73 in lines.  I don't have any of the part #s but you can pm me and I will give you the info I have. Unfortunately I deleted most of my correspndence with the companies. The other issue I had was on the front brake where it attaches to the triple tree there is a peg that fits in to keep the line centered. There is no corresponding hole on the magnum assembly. To get it on I had to grind it off. I tried to return the magnum assembly but I had scratched it up. You don't need the lower section because the fairing breaks it up so you can tell the difference. It came out well and was worht waiting for, I have about 50 miles and they are comfortable. It's been too cold to do much riding though.

Probably have about $1000 plus the extra $300 for the trans cover I screwed up. Would have probably been cheaper for me to have someone else do it but where is the fun in that. PM for any other ?s

Yikes!..$ 1, 000?.....do you have a price breakdown?

I might just get 12.5" bars...no mods needed..just the cost of the bars.

I would call wild ones. I talked to one of their installers when I ordered and he told me what to get. I have read about people doing them without ext but not sure. I wanted all the connections to stay where they were from the factory. You will definitely need to buy new bushings as well. The stock ones are too soft and you will get a lot of flex from them.
