'11 FLTRUSE value plummeting?
« on: October 04, 2014, 08:57:22 AM »

Had fun riding my '11 RGU this season. My local dealer is making some nice offers to get rid of their leftover '14s and I'm considering it, but what I'm being offered in trade is kind of startling. None of the area dealers are offering more than $22K on a bike with 16K miles, most less. I paid $28500 for it six months ago. For a 4-my-old bike, that seems like kind of a steep rate of depreciation. Am I missing something here? Are the '11s in less demand now with the '15 CVO RGUs out?

You do understand the trading deal? If he discounts his, he drops value of yours equally. Dealer retains his profit margin regardless. If he puts his back at retail and then raises yours a few thousand would that make you feel better? Probably not. Trade or don't, your decision.

I understand perfectly well how buy/sell/trade values work, thanks. I've been doing it for years. I was surprised because, given a 20% profit margin, offering $21K in trade means they're expecting to resell it for around $25K. That's a pretty big drop off what they were selling for at the beginning of this season - the average listing price I saw then was about $28K-29K. We're they overpriced then or has the market value gone down that much in six months?

Fester,

I am facing the same reality. I purchased my '11 FLTRUSE new. It has 59k on it. I had a dealer offer of 19-20k for trade against a '15 FLTRUSE. The NADA book trade value is between 21-24k.

Then I went on eBay. Plenty of guys trying to get 27-28k for an '11 FLTRUSE but not seeing any sell near that price. If you look for the sold listings they are more in the 22-24k range.

I will be trying to sell mine locally. I figure that any amount I get more than 21k will be money ahead on the dealers offer. I think this is why so many guys are hanging onto their '09 CVO RG. Hard to take that big hit in the pocket book, '09 is still a sexy bike and '09 is holding it's comparable value been than the '11 Ultra RG CVO.

I saw 2 of the 2011 CVO RG's at a dealer. One had only 400 miles on it & the other one had around 10K. They had them listed for 31K & 28,995. They've been sitting there for awhile what they said..

Sure glad i sold mine last year for 28,500 now...

New RG kind of cannibalizes the value / market too.

Don't want to sound mean but the color you have isn't the most popular either. Someone really has to be looking for it and want it to buy it. I'm at 36k miles on mine now and locked in a deal before the official announcement. Took the CARB report to my dealer and told them if they make one in blue, I want one. He gave me trade value as of that day. After the new models came out a few days later and the new NADA book came out. Trade value on these bikes dropped $800.

So to answer your question, yes, the new models hurt the value of the '11s.

Last yr I was offered $21K on my 2011 FLTRUSE  on trade on a new 2014 CVO FLH from the dealer I purchased it new from. After $5K in stage lll upgrades and a proper tune by Doc Weaver I have about $45K spent on mine. After owing mine then for only 23 months, I felt I'm better off holding on to it.

Today up at Space Coast HD in Palm Bay FL. I was told used CVO baggers aren't selling and any trade in would be modest against a new CVO Road Glide. I told the sales person I had 40K miles on mine and will probably have between 53K-60K miles by next yr. He said, "Don't rack up those miles".
As if it matters now. I'm going to ride & enjoy, screw them!

I actually like that color. My first choice would have been the red. This gray one was my least favorite color but the price was right at the time of purchase.

I liked the color too but never ever got to see one in person. Kind of tough when people were calling it the "turdinator" when it first came out. I thought it was retro looking colors. I ended up with Charcoal Slate and Black Ember as well though I would have preferred the red. My '15 will be Burgundy Blaze and Typhoon Maroon.

I emailed about 7 dealers within easy driving explaining I had a 2013 CVO Breakout, 2700 miles and wanted to trade. Didn't say for what but, assuming it was in above average condition, what would they give me for it? I got offers ranging from 16K to 23K.

Touring bike values up to 2013 took a hit when the 14's came out with the new fairing and bag design and the 15 Road Glide will do the same to the older ones. Just the way it is.

Not so sure the '15's aren't right behind us. I see there is one listed on eBay, 1 bid at $35k with 2000 miles on it. Item #231360801197

I just went through the process.  My dealer looked at auction sales and went from there.  Unfortunately the impression is that motorcycles should be ridden 6k miles per year or less.  The 11 FLTRUSE are selling between 22 and 24.5K at auction with 24k miles.  Dealer gave high rate minus mileage(15cents a mile x 30k miles).  I got 20k tradein.  I've seen some very low mileage 11 FLTRUSE's sell between 26 and 28k at dealers.  Yes the market is about to get saturated and prices will start falling.

I ride an 06, with 70,000 on it best offer on a trade in I had was $11,000.  Decided to go ahead and ride the hell out of it since I was told the current mileage killed the trade in value. All this even though at 55,000 miles changed cams, efi, can plates , push rods etc. Runs great looks great so its a keeper.

It seems with the introduction of Rushmore models,  more customers are opting to buy those in both CVO and standard trim, as opposed to clean, used non Rushmore bikes. People are willing to pay more for the latest and greatest I guess.
