Title: Steering vibration
Post by: Jessee on May 18, 2015, 12:34:32 AM
I installed a king tour pack on my 05 cherry and now I get the death wobble if I either let go of grips or have very light hand hold. If I detach tour pack the wobble is not there. Any ideas to get wobble gone and still keep king tour pack?

Do you think it is as simple as weight distribution?

Items to check:

steering head bearings
Tire pressures
Shock preload
Condition of front motor mount
Chassis alignment

I could check all those but problem should still be there when I remove tour pack...but it is not. I was actually wondering if wind resistance against tour pack could be the issue because king pack is large.

Actually the problem may still be there to a lesser extent when you don't have the T-P installed, and the addition of the TP just aggravates the condition.  The items hd-dude listed are all known areas of concern on the earlier frame design bikes, which had problems with wobbles for as long as I can remember.  There are others on the site, like Twolanerider, who have run a King T-P on a 2005 SEEG successfully, so I doubt it's just a concern because of the TP.  Steering head lubrication and adjustment, front and rear powertrain mounts, and alignment really need to be checked out.
