04 Tour Pack Rack
« on: September 30, 2005, 12:08:32 PM »

There has been a lot of discussion about the tour packs on these SEEGs but I never connected one line of dots that someone connected for me last weekend.

I have finally got the tour pack rack swapped out and managed a few shots in the process. Mind you these are small cracks, but once I discovered the problem I wanted to get a fix prior to the two year mark.
This first shot is what I saw when I first looked up under the tour pack, just a line of rust, proof of a breach in the security of my valuables! Of course the permanent marker is a special thanks from our local Stealership, Colonial HD.  [smiley=oops.gif]

Flip side, it was hard to get a decent shot but the crack completely through the bracket was proof that there is a need to replace this system.

Last picture kiddies! Same evidence, opposite side. This all came from a guy who uses his tour pack more like an oversized purse rather than a serious luggage hauler. So it is not weight related, I think the old design just allows for more vibration.

The refit with the new rack required a new (1 per side) mounting post be installed. Got 'er all taken care of under warranty and we are back on the road! If you go down this road, make sure you state your intentions clearly. That extra post was not readily available so our dealer wanted to use the old model which he could get overnight from another dealer who had excess stock. I told them that it was defective enough for the MoCo to re-engineer and that must mean I don't want it!
1. Is the new post in position.
2. is the old post still in position, just in case I wanted to use the backrest, no tour pack.
3. Is Mrs. We's bike shoing how mine used to look before I added the new post, now you know how I quickly aquired a back ordered part.
