Hello I am Hugh,
I lost my leg in a T-Bone accident on my custom 2003 Nightrain. I ending up underneath the reared of a semi truck trailer on my Birthday 2009 6 months after being married. My leg was severed below knee on site and hanging from a small piece of muscle. I was induced into a coma for three days so they could work on me as I had a compound fracture of my left femur, femur was also broken at the hip head, compound fracture of my left forearm in two locations, five broken ribs, book match fractured pelvis, fractured spleen, left shoulder soft tissue damage, slight brain damage due to impact and landing 30 yards away, road rash on back and arms. I was given 11% chance of making it. I went through 15 hours of surgery the first night, ending up having 12 surgeries over the 23 days I was in the hospital. I lost a total of 55 lbs and was home for 8 months doing therapy and getting stronger. Way to many meds and sitting on my ass was getting to me so I stopped the meds and went back to work at 8 1/2 months.
I can tell you one of the first questions I asked after seeing my leg was missing was! Hows the Bike. Needless to say my wife did't think it was funny or a good question.
Not only has it changed me physically it has emotional side also. I have missed riding so much. So I said F it and a little less than 7 years later purchase the new CVO.
Here is a video photo montage my wife put together to help.
Why Reverse? Since I am missing my left leg I can not push the bike back so I decided to have the Baker Driveline installed so I don't need to be dependent on others. Not my style. Not only am I having the reverse installed I am having the Pingel Electric Speed Shifter Kit installed so I can shift the bike.
I can't wait to get back on a bike. If I don't feel safe I will just purchase a sidecar and make it one bad ass ride. Here are some pics.
A saying I like is.
It's what you do when you get up that matters!!!
