Great Guy, loved to ride, but not too bright?
« on: March 06, 2012, 12:44:56 PM »

Joey from Mokena Illinois.  Good friend of my older brother, member of his club died last Wednesday in Mokena Illinois after running into a Metra train.  Joey was a great guy that loved to ride, not too bright when it comes to riding after leaving a bar?  About 1am on the last day in February, yes February in Illinois, 1am after leaving the club bar he passed his street, turned around and saw the train leaving the station and apparently thought he could out run the train.  Lots of good logical questions to be asked:  why do people think they can ride a motorcycle after drinking, even those that have proven to be good at it in the past:  Nothing wrong with loving to ride, but 1am in Illinois on a weeknight when you have to go to work the next morning?  What's the hurry, worried about a few extra minutes of sleep before work the next day?  Frustrating as hell!  Good guy that got along with everyone that loved to ride.  They found body parts a quarter mile down the tracks?  It's not our place to judge, he's in my prayers and hopefully if the good lord gives him another chance in the afterworld, he has better judgment!

Rio, sorry for your loss.  I agree with you on the drinking and riding but that is what decisions are all about.  Sure
made a few I wish I didn't.  Prayers for you and the family of Joey.

Sorry for your loss but if the guy had a habit of drinking and riding it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Its a shame to lose a fellow rider anytime, in a self inflicted way is such a waste. Makes me think of the after party rides I have taken and say "Never Again". But when it comes that time, will I think with a level head!!

This guy loved to ride, and loved to hang out with the guys at the club house.  I think it's obvious if your on a bike in the Chicago area in February, that's definately a stretch beyond a casual rider.  They ruled out suicide after watching the street video footage over and over again.  When I was young, I used to do some stupid stuff, this guy was 50.  I guess we will never know what goes through someones head when something beyond rational thinking happens?

Tough Rio. Always tough to loose a friend this way. In 85 my buddy thought he could outrun a cop.  He missed a curve at over 100 MPH. The trees were mercifull. He felt little. His Mom on the other hand...

Always tough on we who are left behind. RIP Brother.

they had the funeral today.  one of his 3 x-wives rented a Harley Hurse, trike with a trailer carrying the casket.  there were about 100 bikes in the procession on a 35 degree day in Chicago.  the guy loved to ride, and that was his legacy how they honored him. there was a thread about rolex bikers, I just laugh becasue the guy that made that comment probably isn't close to what a real biker is.  i would classify this guy as a biker and me, a guy that just likes to ride!
