Title: Cleaned My Bike Today, Not Fun...
Post by: Dan_Lockwood on April 20, 2019, 07:52:53 PM
Linda and I are going to the Forest Park Easter Sunday Car Show and that prompted me to clean my SERG for the ride there.  I really didn't do it justice last year as I did NOT clean since before we did ES in early June.  Linda didn't ride much last summer so I rode the "other" bike mainly.

So after cleaning up the SERG, the other bike felt left out a bit.  So I spent the afternoon doing a good job on it.  Should have gotten out the whitewall cleaner and brush, but just did a rag and 409 for a quickie.  When I pull the rear wheel to replace the spokes, I'll do a better whitewall cleaning.  I did find a couple broken rear spokes again.  I guess I may have to just have it all re-spoked and see how it lasts... again.  I'll buy a couple spokes from Buchannan's like last time and replace just the broken spokes.  If they go out again, maybe the re-spoked wheel will be the option to look at.

Nice bike and she really shines! Yeah that is a lot to clean!

I stay after my bike regularly. Have found that Cycle Care #33 and #3 are my best friends!

Wish I could ride to church tomorrow but had to do in my suit. Easter sunrise at 7 am, followed by breakfast and fellowship, then our worship service at 9:30. No other services after that, but my mother wants all the family to get together for a late lunch.

God Bless and ride safe.

For those that have been to ES with us, they know that I'm normally not lax about taking care of the bike.  But last summer was just a blah summer and I just didn't get the SERG out only a couple times.  I put 1347 miles on it last year and around 1200 was from the trip to ES.

I've got several different Quick Detailer solutions that I use, just depends on what I'm out of at the time I'm cleaning.

Enjoy your family tomorrow.  It's just Linda and I as my son and his family live in the Des Moines area and my brother and the rest of our family live in the central Michigan Clare area.  So both are out for the weekend, too far to drive for a one nighter.

She looks great!  I don't spend much time detailing my bikes but going to a show is a great reason.  For a while we had four bikes then three (now two) and it is hard to find time to take care of them!

Your bike looks great!  Watch those broken spokes, bad things can happen fast if too many break on a wheel.

Clay barred my bike a few weeks ago.  Lots of work, time consuming, outcome was worth it.

Broken spokes can turn into a disaster real quick.

I'll never own a bike with spokes again. 300 lb rider + 120lb passenger + 950lb motorcycle + 115 lb of torque =  disaster.
I put a Fatboy wheel on the rear of my 2006 ultra, cant see it anyway.  But spokes do look good. I also didn't like cleaning them.
